Hey guys,

I know some of you have your license, Christian, Wheelingnoob, John, for 3... well, I am pleased to say as of this week I'm also officially licensed as VA7 HDT :grinpimp:

Took me a while (hey, life is busy...) but I did finally did it and got the paperwork. I still have a LOT (read: metric sh*t tonne) to learn, but at last I've started.

I was wondering if you guys might want to start a little list of who uses VHF and your general location. I'd also love to try some long distance communication... perhaps using a repeater on SIRG network? (southern interior repeater group). If I understand it correctly, we should be able to chat via the repeaters from lower mainland to Kamloops. :cheers:

I have a radio, but it's in my truck which is not my daily driver, so I'm not always available. I'm in Abbotsford.

Yeah I have mine but limited on practical knowledge. I have not even taken the time in the last year I have had my license to instal my radio. :/

I was hoping I would be able to learn as I go but that to this point has not been the case. I think learning how to talk via repeaters to your area would be awesome.
 
VA7SEN, my radio is still in Lili, waiting to be transplanted into Iris. My dual band antennae took some damage, the CB antennae is trashed. All the NMO cable is also trash, hope to get back on the air soon

I attended a class at Abbotsford Amateur Club this January. A classmate ordered some dual band handheld units from BAOFENG, cheap ones. I will get mine this Saturday. I still work in a telecom industry, wireline to wireless, low speed to high speed but never really had a chance with deal with PTT radios until I got a CB in my LC. Time to upgrade so I got mine, VE7REO at your service. I'm now attending the Tuesdays meetings at Abby to get a better feeling of it. Nice people out there. Mostly seniors but I'm not that far behind @58:frown:

Other than the Chilliwack club, does anyone know where else you can take a ham radio course?

Dates & Times: Students for the basic course will attend 6 sessions over two weeks on the following dates:

  • April 1st Tuesday, 7:00 pm until 9:30 pm
  • April 3rd Thursday, 7:00 pm until 9:30 pm
  • April 5th Saturday, 9:00 am until 1:00 pm
  • April 8th Tuesday, 7:00 pm until 9:30 pm
  • April 10th Thursday, 7:00 pm until 9:30 pm
  • April 12th Saturday, 9:00 am until 3:00 pm (including the examination)
