I have a H55F from a 83/84 BJ42 for sale. It will not have a Top Plate. I am keeping the 40 series top plate.

The top plate is where the shifter cane enters the transmission. See the attached photo for a comparison. It will not have a top plate. I am keeping the 40 series top plate. The transmission came out of either a 1983 or 1984 BJ42. You will need to purchase a 60 series top plate. They are easier to find than the 40 series. I do not know the mileage. Shipping will depend. Its heavy. I can build a box and take it to the local Fastenal and get a price. If you have the split transfercase and the BJ is a diesel so you will need to swap the input shaft.

Yes to the first question. The H55F transmission for the 60 series is still available from Toyota. I will be ordering a new one. The 60 series top will be for sale

What the progress on the reproduction 40 top plates? there was a mudder i thought that was tackling this?

Casey E deleted his ? i think he asked about the 40 top plate which I'm almost positive isn't available new, probably some hoarders out their that have new ones i assume. not sure on the 60 as it has never been on my want list. sorry i butted in if it wasn't constructive tstepp920
So they will not sell just the 60 series top plate?

You are correct. The 40 series top plate is not available new. I didn't take your participation as butting in. The more the merrier.

Don't forget this will only work with a B diesel engine. Input shaft needs to be changed. Those are not available in the US. All the five speeds in the 40 series were earlier than 10/85 when Toyota made changes to the H55F. Toyota never sold those here and seems the parts for it are not in their system. Aftermarket input shaft is available in Australia. The 8/80-10/85 H41 and 10/82-10/85 H55F shared the same input shaft. A used from one of those mated to a F or H engine would work. The front bearing retainer needs to be replaced as well but one of those should be easy to find since the H42 from a pre 8/80 and 8/80-10/85 will work.

This is a picture of four speed top covers, not that it matters. The 40/55 series four speed top covers were cast iron. All other were aluminum including the 40 series five speeds.

If you are going to the Carolina Relic Run I can bring this and save you the shipping if you are interested.
