Bump for a great thread

I just assembled #396 to an H41, I read through this the night prior to the install and was all sorts of refreshed on the process. I ended up using a new fine-spline front output shaft, 2-4WD collar and a new hi-low collar. Didn't use either of the step washers, with the backcut gears it setup better than any of the others I've setup using just the stock washers. The only issues I had were a couple of items that were missing/wrong in the kit (no drain plugs and a 130mm modified bolt in the 4 speed kit?).

Thanks for doing such a great job documenting the proccess Steve!

Working on building an Orion this weekend. On the Hi-Low shift selector fork - it comes with plastic inserts at three positions along the inside of the curve. Do these inserts stay installed when the fork rides in the channel of the clutch?
It does feel solid after the cover is installed so I am thinking they are in fact supposed to stay on...
Thoughts?
