Alright, I thought I'd start my own build thread on my new purchase/trade. Some of you have probably already seen the thread on my decision of the purchase:

Someday I will drop in something like a "high performance" 2F, 350 or a diesel. Until then I will run with Stewart's upgraded F motor out of his 72 55.

I will warn you, I am a college student with a full time job. So funds are tight and spare time is seldom. I hope to update this frequently, but we will see.

So far I took out the drive lines and the radiator with front trim when I had a couple hours the other morning. 2 broken bolts on the fender so far, I just gotta be a little more careful and let that PB do its job.

My big concern is getting that motor in there and starting it up as it was running when it was pulled, and it is just sitting in the back of the mini truck now.

Can't wait to get this thing on the road!:steer:

Check that metal radiator fan for cracks around the rivets...they have a habit of letting one of the fan blades go flying off at the most inopportune times. Better yet, replace it with a plastic fan.
Also, you may have the rare Toyota "Hi-Po" big runner intake manifold...if so, you may want to think about putting that on BigSals motor.

Welcome to the enchanted world of FJ55s!!!! The thing I dislike about these pre-'74 Land Cruisers is that darned 3-speed without synchromeshed 1st gear. I have a 2F/4-speed/t-case from a FJ60 if you're interested. Should bolt right up. I'm a fan of keeping things in the Toyota family, especially Land Cruiser family.

I don't see any cracks, however that sounds like a risk I don't want to take. It also looks like I have the "Hi-Po" on the old motor! I will be swapping that out for the one on the new motor.

Actually Stewart has the 4-speed mounted to the F motor with a 3-speed t-case, he threw his custom made drivelines so that it will bolt right up. Can't wait to put it in, just need to take off some linkages, the exhaust and the clutch slave. Then I need to find an engine hoist :hhmm:

Yeah. man! Run that puppy with that straight pipe! I actually gave you all my flange bolts too....oops! If you got any extras can you PM me? I am using non-stock bolts right now and want to go back to those flange bolts.

Hope that thing bolts right up. Keep in mind you may need to use those tranny mounts I gave you as yours from the 69 might not work. :hhmm:

Glad to see it is progressing. And yes, I would find a plastic fan for that.
Also, be sure to check the torque on all the head bolts. I remember telling you that we used the rear most one on drivers side for bolting the hoist bracket to.

good luck!

Yeah, definitely going to use those tranny mounts. I'll make sure to torque down those head bolts down. I'll see what happens when I attempt to take off those other flange bolts, I made an attempt but they were being a bit stubborn.

Nice pig!
I also like the first gen hauling the driveline around.

Oh yea, I love that little truck. My little brother is starting to see the magic in that thing as well. I felt soooo Toyota on the way home.

Hey Gurr,
So I just ordered a new cable for my parking brake. The old one is now too short. ( I kept it cause I thought it would work.) Unless your new pig already has a four speed tranny, you will need this cable ( and it's spendy if you try to buy one). I am willing to ship it to you, but I'm wondering if you would be willing to trade me for the extra driveshaft bolts and nuts that I left on the driveshafts... and that clutch slave cylinder I gave you..:hhmm:

Wanna make a deal? I think you should end up with this cable, but I kinda blew it with those other two parts :whoops:. Give me a call 530-412-1221 or a PM.

Sal

Hope it's going well.

Oh s***! pm sent.
