Registered. May have new shoes for the hundy by then. Will bring the oldest (Chase) with me again this year. Amazing, I believe he's grown another foot since our first GSMTR in 2012.

Registered, only had 10 spots left when I did, whew!

by the way, I didn't see a B Garcia on that list???? :(

Hey Ted, wondering when you guys plan to run WR? If the opportunity presents I would like to see that one in person too. Otherwise I will be with Sam on the kiddie rides

Talking with CID 96, he mentioned that some group talk was running it Saturday.

We talked about it briefly but came to no real decisions. The consensus was to run it Fri or Sat so that no one died early in the week and wasn't able to get their share of wheeling in. ;)

That said, and this has been debated on here a bunch of times, I'm not sure a full bodied, un-geared, un-2x locked truck could/should be on that trail. "Could" it be done... yeah I'm sure, but at what price to body (both truck and yours) is the question.

We also discussed Rail Trail briefly, I'll let Nick give his thoughts on a full sized 80 going on that trail but the lower portion near Cadillac Hill will eat sheet metal and then spit it back at ya. just sayin.

I've watched a number of Walden Ridge vids on Youtube and it does not seem that daunting. That said, I agree that having all of the bells and whistles on a 80 will indeed make the trip more "pleasant." I just really want to drive the end.

:)

you'll have to search other threads as it's a long discussion but honestly it's not about being "pleasant", 95% of that trail is doable for a stock 80 but getting onto the ridge and back off the ridge is... well, frankly, dangerous! And not safely (relatively) doable unless locked in front and rear and geared.

Doing the Dusy was dangerous. Coming down a 1900' downhill incline switchback in Southern Utah where the only place to go was down was dangerous (with a mere inches to one side--the down side). The Walden Ridge section looks challenging and will require some nice technical driving. :)

This adequately describes the WR except down on both sides. Roger referred to it as Open Casket on one side and closed Casket on the other. Beyond that I know we've never wheeled together but I trust you have skills. Don't want to over-hype the trail but I'm sure others will have input soon 'nuff.

Nicely put sir. I'll stick with: Drinking beer at the end of the trail sounds best!

:)

Ah, I knew that and then got caught up with the WR discussion. The weather will dictate the schedule but assuming my junk is still in 1 piece we'll have open seats for M & E.

Wow, I leave to drive home from work and I miss a whole page of discussion

For my contribution to the discussion, Beno is about the only full bodied 80 that will be at GSMTR (besides maybe Rance) that I would say has any business on Rail Trail. I know Beno has wheeled alot and i think I remember him saying he has rolled his 80 twice, there is nothing he can do to that truck that a roll wouldnt have had a chance to do to it :meh:. As for Walden's Ridge, I have never wheeled it so I am really no help there. Honestly that trail makes me kinda nervous, I believe my truck is plenty capable, I just dont know about the nut behind the wheel...o_O

Ted, I think Matt and Erin want to come along as passengers. I think Matt loves his 80 too much to put it in harms way.

^^^ this. Just want to say I saw it. I am torn on how grown up I want the 80 to be. I hope I can build a true trail rig in a few years that can run with the big boys.

Honestly think Erin probably won't want to ride the "ridge" itself, just spectate that section. Maybe man the camera.

And while we are talking rigs, at the fear of opening a can, would a built and "trimmed" 80 or a built 1st gen runner or mini be more SE wheeling worthy. :poof:

FJ80 (3FE), mated with a 60 transmission, toybox...you get the gearing you want and the superior suspension and axles...the one thing my truck lacks is gearing...

First gen 4runners are nice, but you have to get a '85 and everybody wants it too

Edit: 2nd gen 4-runner, SAS, linked, 3.4, dual cases (2.8 and 4.7) running 80 axles. Can gear diffs and cases to whtever ya want, even triple up the cases like another sorry arsehole we all know. It's narrow unlike an 80 but can still carry 4 with gear and can be modified for a removable top. Chromo everything on red label 39s...would go anywhere.

If I had Pilguy's runner that thing would be a panty dropper!!

Yea if I had a money tree in my backyard I would just build a tube buggy with the most expensive parts too and have lots and lots of LED lights :flipoff2:

How is a 4runner narrower than an 80 if you are running 80 axles? :moon:

OK OK, the body is narrower than an 80, barely. He never said "cheap" now did he and a buggy aint got no A/C. Of course we never really did answer the question either so here it goes...
