make sure the spout has the vent thru the filler, some don't and pour PAINFULLY slow, the good ones have the vent. I picked up 5 of them new for $1 each.......at a thrift store :)

you can also get surplus mini Jerry cans, most are un--used and just $5, they are great for oil/gear lube/ whatever and I also carry one in each cruiser filled with gas, its only about 1.5gall but its better than nothing. there is not a spout for them, so you need a funnel or something.

and how bout a pic of my new OEM Toyota Jerry can ;)

These are very popular holders over here.

Exterior jerry-can tray

I'm thinking of mounting a jerry-can tray on the right side of my 80-series, above and behind the rear wheel, below the window. I hate to drill into the side, but I don't want to spring for a trick bumper right now just to get a mount, and I don't have a roof rack. Any ideas? I've Googled and cruised all over the place, and no one seems to have addressed the problem in a way I can use. I could weld up something to go into the reciever hitch, but then I'd have to spring-load it so I could get into the back.

I did about the same thing on my fj55, I used a standard mil suprlus mount(or maybe it was for a Blitz can) and an used Nato can, made a strap for it. Backside was braced with some plate steal, drilled thru the body.

can kinda see it here

Hmmmm......add says 'Like New' Means refurbished to me.

Ad also says unissued. That means "never used". I have two of them. For all intents and purposes, they are new but cannot be sold as new. They are unused surplus.

Looks great, LP. I think the tailgate on my 80-series is too short to fit a standard jeffy can, but maybe if I come up above the window sill a bit like you did . . . will check when I get home. I'd put the GD thing inside if it weren't for the fumes. Those California Emissions jerry cans are supposed to be pretty fume-free . . . does anyone know of a can that absolutely won't emit any fumes? (Of course, if things got hot enough, you'd want some kind of pressure-relief valve)

3-pitts was selling cans, don't know what he has left.

The CA emissions cans are crap. Very leaky.
A buddy was able to find a few Nato type cans with the fume emitting nozzle (but totally leak free) at some Ace Hardware stores in the Bay Area. He picked up a couple cans for me.

Where are you in NorCal?
You might be able to find some if you search.

I'm in Marin County -- San Anselmo. I agree about the CA emissions cans, but I guess hope springs eternal. On our last Baja trip we had two red plastic gas cans (not jerry cans) bouncing around in the back of my Tacoma. The new one leaked regularly, while an old one that I had had forever didn't lose a drop. I'll look around for those NATO cans, but I'm not real optimistic. There's no smell from those?

No smell. Tight seal. They have a rubber gasket that seals it completely. The ones I have each come with their own pour nozzle.

IIRC, these were found in the East Bay -- around Concord, Pleasanton area Ace Hardware stores (not all stores had them though). Briggs & Stratten labels on them.

I will check out the East Bay, but how do I contact this legendary 3-pitts? I am a rookie, you know.

Does anyone here use the new style plastic NATO fuel cans that the US military is using? Ever wonder why the military's world wide are ditching the metal cans and going to the plastic? I don't have a plastic one, but have a couple of really nice used metal military ones, but I'll be getting the new plastic ones in the future, with matching water jugs as well. I like the looks of them and know they're tough. They are made by Sceptor, and carried by Pangaea Expeditions and other places.
