I have a question which has different answers I’m sure, but I’m curious. How much good does greaseable shackle bolts and greaseable spring pins do? I mean is there really a noticeable difference? If you get SOR’s graphite impregnated stuff does that mean it’s already lubed. The pins and bolts are riding on polyurethane not metal, so how much does grease help? Well that’s more than one question, but the same topic.

You'll get differing opinions. Greaseable parts always last longer. You can also make the argument that the greaseable pins aren't as strong since the centers are bored out. Try searching on this subject.

I installed poly bushings with a metal sleeves which I put the greesable pin through. The more parts I am able to greese on my rig the better I feel. Maybe that's old school of thought, but has not failed yet. Yet.

Agreed. My opinion is every moving part can benefit from lube and will provide added life to the parts. ;) As for strength I see them on a lot of rigs and only hear the stories about knocking off the certs here and there. I'm sure you can find someone here that has broken one of the bolts, but it won't be the majority.

I like greaseable shackles, sounds like a good ides to me. Installed them on 2 of my rigs.

I did however go against the advice of the vendor who sold them to me. He said they were, as already pointed out, weaker than non-greaseables. And that also makes sense. Maybe they break more frequently...but I've not heard/experienced it. If you wheel often, even hard... but maybe not super hard, I think the benifits are there.

Go for it

I put them on when I did my TPI suspension. It rides a whole lot better/smoother. Was at Flat Nasty a couple weeks ago, had some buddies in Jeeps go, and you could hear there bushings squeeking on the trail. Here's something to chew on, I have a '63 Ford factory 4X4, that came with greaseable pins, bronze/brass spring bushings from the factory. This 1/2 ton p/u is built as heavy as most 1 tons today. Has worked for 44 years:grinpimp: . Al

Great idea. Work great until the zerks break off on the rocks/terrain. Then not so great. Everything has +/-'s...

military has always used greasable shackles it works for them good luck
