Did you disable the street map and select the topo stuff via the menu system? I've never had issues with the 1300 and I have the latest firmware installed. I've even loaded ozi street maps and ozi topos (for a non-garmin source) and never had problems.

cheers,
george.

Yes, that was the weird part. The maps uploaded just fine, checked those settings and went crazy on a trip.... However the trip we took was outside of the maps I downloaded. I figured it would default to the root maps.

Hmm, I turn specific maps on/off based on the area. So, if wanting topo, I turn off the street stuff etc and turn on only the topo and v.v. Maybe it's worth trying again but specifically turn on the street stuff when needed. Also make sure you've downloaded the latest firmware updates from Garmin via their update service.

Buying a like new, Garmin 1490 LMT, that a guy got for this last, 2011 Christmas and was a brand new one. Hopefully I can download a map of an off road area sometime.

Wonder how a person can utilize the Life time maps, when Garmin says they don't transfer? I don't know what you do when you update maps but if anybody has tips on this, I would appreciate hearing them.

The IPAD isn't going to work out for me now. It's over my budget, even used, and I don't want a monthly service charge to use it. I got prices of $350 and up for a 3 G model. My boss has one that was about double that or more. He said I would have to have a monthly service for the data plan. I don't need another monthly bill so this is out for now. If I'm missing something, let me know.

Thanks.

Bryan

Ok Rob Red...thanks. You have really piqued my interest now even more in this IPAD. I'll keep looking into them.

Just curious but what's a IPAD 3G or 4G cost, approximately as of today, 6/13/12? The link you sent me to says to get at least a 32 GB? Thanks.

Apple.com has all of that pricing. If you want this for nav as a primary I would think about getting a used iPad 1 3G... I've seen a few going for 350 in the 64GB configuration.

Sent from my iPad 2 using IH8MUD
