Well, dropped the old cover off today, having a guy make me a new one out of 1000 denier waterproof cordura. Gray / green color.

Lightweight, waterproof, extremely abrasion resistant rip-stop.

We will see how it turns out.

I will post pics when he is done.

wow out of denier that ought to be sweet......

I am interested in the result, i need one too! Arrgggg

Jeb,

Roof-Top-Tent has a new cover coming out for the Expedition. Very affordable and an improvement over the old one. You might want to give it a try.:)

Too late, she is in the works.

Funny, the cover on my first Mombasa was very nice. Very tough and extremely water tight. The one with the bungee around the bottom.

Plus, it came all the way off so I could put it off to the side.

The newer one is a piece of crap and is always hanging there in my way.

Why didn't they just stick with what worked?

I am basing my design off of the old one as far as how it secures.

Not to mention, for every 100 e-mails and phone calls you send Mel, he will return 1 if you are lucky.

He is a good guy and treated me right on my stuff but I just cannot wait around for him. Still waiting on the last two e-mails I sent him 3 weeks ago. The women / girls he has working in his office that answer the phone are worthless. They literally know NOTHING and have no control over anything. I am surprised they can figure out what to eat for lunch.

Thanks for the information though. What will the new covers cost?

So, they are fixing a problem with their product and then charging the customer $ to fix it? Thats insane!~

Just for my 2 cents I had a soft top made for a old blazer , the material was sunbrella and it held up very well.it didn't flap while driving because it had heavy velcro the entire length plus snaps on the edges.
I am a truck driver and I used to haul flatbed loads that I used the heavy black tarps on. They would work very well too but unless you could find a small piece you would have enough material to make 10 RTT covers.find a local truck stop they have those tarps and prices are not too bad

Whats the status on this Jeb?

Whats the status on this Jeb?

He is not done yet.

I told him to take his time as he was in the middle of his latest project, making all of the covers for all of the golf carts at Pebble Beach golf course. A money maker for sure.

He will have to squeeze it out somewhere in there.

As soon as I get it back, I will post some pics for you folks.

Jeb, the mombasa cover should unzip 3/4 around the base and then the last 1/4 pull out of the extruded aluminum track and can be put anywhere you want.

Looking forward to seeing what your guy comes up with and how much it will cost.

Jenny, what did Mombasa do to the cover to change it? When did they release a new version? I just picked up my second Expedition Series cover about 1.5 months ago. It's the same as the first one, however they did send a new zipper and new track zipper which was nice.

They can keep their zipper. I am tired of that zipper mumbo jumbo.

Mine will be bungee all the way around, like the old ones.

I went through monsoons in Mexico with the old one and not a drop got in.

This one sits for one night of rain and the friggin' bedding was soaked and moldy when I opended it up.

Yeah, RTT covers see a lot of abuse.

I had the old Mombasa and then switched over to the Eezi-Awn 1800 which is 3x the price of the Mombasa and kind of regret doing so.

Sad to say that the cover AND the matress on the old mombasa were much nicer and well built than that of the eezi-awn costing 3x as much! Argggg

The floor and the canvas on the Eezi-Awn is super stout and top notch, but needing to put a thermarest under your mattress of a $1800 tent just doesnt sit well with me!

That is good to know.

I really like my tent but, as with most things, I can pick out some stuff that I would change. For the most part, it is a solid unit. The mattress is great, the canvas is good, the ladder is a vast improvement over the old one. Even the floor, made out of aluminum, is really sturdy.

It is just the cover, the DAMN cover. Why did they change?

I know its a bit late in the game, But I am in the process of having one made, Talking to the owner of Wave prod. we decided on a "top gun" material, He said to get back with him in a week after the Ski Resorts close ... He thinks it will only take a few hours @ $40 per and around 5yd of top gun @ $12 per, So, I guessing it could run in the $200 range.
Good luck on yours!

I got a better idea, you give me your nice Jayco trailer thingamcbob and in exchange, i give you a full force, cocked back, kick to the nut with a nice leather boot.

Deal? :flipoff2:

You have not met my Sherpa! :D
are you saying that it's okay that you don't have cajones because you have a sherpa?

is that what you're sayin'...because it sure sounds that way...
