Under the hood some odd things. Some sort of buck-shee tranny cooler reservoir added, and some odd chrome cannister that had garden hose style plumbing from the intake to it and to the the air cleaner???

That is to collect the oil from blow-by coming from the crankcase vent line. I'd have a look at how much is in the cannister and then pull the line to see how much oil mist is produced when it is running at say 2600 rpms. Increased blow-by can be expected on an older engine which has the turbo cranked up.
