Hey all, I was wondering if you could give me suggestions as to where the best hiding spot in my 80 is! PM me if you have any ideas. I am not trying to smuggle things or anything illegal...but I need a spot for valuables that is very well hidden! Thanks.

depends on how big? under the from passenger seat is a nice little place

Depends on how big what you are trying to hide is, and how much effort you are willing to put into retrieval.

Behind the door panel is good for small items. It requires a screw or two to get to it.

Behind the moulding panels below the sliding windows have more space.

There is lots of space inside the dash.

Lots of space inside the front fenders.

Above the spare tire works well.

Inside the spare tire or gas tank are unlikely to be searched by police...

It all depends on what you are hiding and from whom. Experienced thieves will find your stuff no matter where you put it, a smash and grab thief will probably miss things barely hidden.

I am particularly worried about smash and grab thieves, slightly worried about experienced thieves, and worried about the police. I am willing to spend say 5 minutes to get to the item, so a small amount of effort. Also the spot doesnt need to be huge. I am considering hollowing out the armrest on the drivers side, you can pop the leather thing off fairly easy. any luck with that? Or could you hide things behind the glove box?

Ah, I see what you're getting at. Reach under the dash from either the drivers or passengers side and find or make a place for your stuff, or figure out something under the seats. If you can get your package small enough you can pull out one of the switches in the dash and use that for access. In any case it's probably best not to discuss much more than that here.

That's another great idea, I should get some grey plastic like that and try and see what I can work up.

Dont drive through IL with a hidden compartment, its a felony.

You can get small gun safes that are for the car. I keep my pistol locked up. It has a cable so you can lock it. Cabela's, Sportmans Warehouse has them.

You can buy one and fill it with rocks and the thief will spend his time removing it and not bother looking else where.

????

If you still have the factory tailgate carpet, take it off, make some sort of compartment, put the carpet back on and voila

It is a federal felony to go across any state line with a hidden compartment in your vehicle! The safe is a good idea too, even as a decoy. I will keep that in mind! Hopefully you wont get caught.

I'm fairly well versed in traveling with a firearm. This website is a good one to get familiar with if those kind of plans are in your future:

Handgunlaw.us

FWIW, I've had to drive through IL twice while armed. Each time I simply stopped prior to the border of the State, unloaded the handgun, and stored the empty firearm in the trunk/storage area. It didn't make me legal but it gave me a level of risk I was willing to accept. I also paid closer attention to speed limits and other traffic laws to make sure I didn't get an unnecessary attention from law enforcement. I'm not encouraging you to take your chances, nor am I suggesting you'll be just fine doing what I did. I'm just saying we all need to decide for ourselves what level of risk we're willing to accept, and then be willing to live with the consequences.

I second that! Thank you. :)

There's always the sunroof. If say you were hiding a small baggie of something, and that something was pliable, like cash or oregeno, or maybe your hiding diamonds. You could crack the roof open, put it in the forward area where the glass comes to rest, then close the roof on it. Seriously, who is going to check there?

Firearms are not illegal! Neither is medical marijuana. At least in some states!
