1978 FJ40 parked in Gold Hill, OR. $15,000. I used to be on this forum years ago as FreewheelingFrank but had to get a new account. I have moved out of the country and realizing that I need to suck it up and sell my LandCruiser. Also comes with some extras like factory rims NIB, hubcaps, tools like Craftsman socket sets, a 110 Lincoln welder wire feed welder, light duty plasma cutter, cheap grinders, sanders, etc.
I live in Belize but I am going to be in Oregon June 17-30. I have a wedding to attend and other running around to do so I would need to arrange times to see it ahead of time. I don't have great pics right now of everything, but will start by posting what I have and will take a bunch more pics when I get to Oregon. Message me if interested and will send cell#.
The rig does not have a hardtop, just an aftermarket soft top. Sitting on 35" tires. Rear fenders have been cut. 1988 SB350 with Throttle Body fuel injection. Toyota 4 speed. new OME leafs, medium up front, light in rear. New Bilstein shocks. ARB roo bar with 3874. Saginaw power steering.
The bad:
its been sitting a lot. Corrosion in the factory fuse block causing issues, but wiring worked well when that was working well.
rust on rear quarters, passenger side pretty bad, under fuel tank, front of rear wheel wells, some other spots
tires are from 2014
black paint over factory paint is chipping off
Need a JTR reluctor ring kit so electronic speedometer will work correctly
Had rubber coating over interior, mostly removed but not quite all
factory front seats have rust in the base. I cleaned it up and painted them, but isn't a permanent fix
transmission tunnel has not been truly fixed after SB350 install and moving shifting levers
new suspension is not broken in, rear shackle angles are not great yet but it should settle into a good angle - have to see what 4 years of sitting has done
rear wheel wells have been cut for fender flares. Flares are removed and have heavy steel arches to install
The good:
engine is solid and TBI was rebuilt before it was parked
dual battery setup and tray
ARB roo bar is good, includes tow bar.
3874 works well
Work by Overland Cruisers in Belgrade, MT:
New metal fuel tank and lines
in tank fuel pump - is awesome, super quiet
rear sill replaced - like a rock now
front shackles back to factory location - solved issues with front differential angles
OME leaf springs, bushings, etc
Bilstein shocks
Doors have new panels, weather stripping, window seals, etc. I cleaned them and painted them, but I found out that I am not great at that work! Bottom area had rust
front and rear lockers work well and are awesome to have
Tires are low mileage on steel rims w. spokes, 15x10, I think. but as above, from 2014
Custom rear bumper, clean and simple with receiver hitch. taillight protection.
front seats recovered.
jump seats need to be recovered but are in decent condition
tuffy center console
Started replacing body hardware with stainless steel and I have a lot of nuts and bolts left
quick release door hinges - open door, lift up, and remove. Okay, it takes some grunting and swearing, but it works
Have factory rims with hubcap clips, 15x5.75. NIB. Have two sets of hubcaps, one new and one used
Power Steering works great. Saginaw.
It needs work to be a driver, but I think cleaning or replacing the fuse block would be 90% of it. There is still rust, but the worst job, the rear sill, has been done. The SB350 is great, throttle linkage is perfect, clutch is light but strong, transmission shifts smooth (for a LC), suspension is correct and will get better as the springs get use, shocks are very good, roo bar is cool, Cruiser still looks pretty stock. Gauge cluster is aftermarket but looks close to factory.
rig is at my FIL's place in Gold Hill. I live in Belize now on an island and a golf cart is my daily driver. Gas is $7.50 a gallon here so I am not bring the 40 down. I will bring the title with me when I come, and have a bunch of receipts for stuff if you want them. I will search through pics and post what I have and will take more when I get there. My FIL has a flip phone so he is no help with pictures!
I found some pics from Dec 2022. Had just hauled it from Montana and it is about to get parked until now. Realize this is very incomplete
