Hello folks

I'm going to go with a buddy to look at an 88 4runner 22re automatic with about 230k miles on the transmission. Mechanic owned and maintained for 20years.
second engine. he says that it shifts like new, but we'll see.

What kinds of issues should i look for with this particular transmission?
It is my understanding that it is a bulletproof design, but what kinds of issues do they have?
I remember a cruiser club buddy having one that had an issue with one of the temperature sensors that would disallow the transmission shifting past a certain "gear."

thanks for any advice.

I was moreso looking for things like
Quirky when cold, then goes away when warmed up, possible issues of Toyota ATF v brand X ATF in high mileage tranny, audible clunk when shifting to reverse or manually selecting gears, has tranny cooler v not having one, ...

Really just what is good, acceptable and normal, bad and easily fixable, or bad and trashed on anything somewhat unique to these transmissions behind the 22re.
Kind of general questions to owners of 4cyl with autos.
