The Cruiser Crawl is in Alabama!
Why take a chance going through Arkansas? Doc Troutman and I broke down in Arkansas on the way to GSMTR a few years back. There's sumthin' just wrong about the roads in Arkansas.

Or... maybe Kowboy's problem is trying to run cross country in an underbuilt heep.
;-)
Happy Trails! N

I told him right at the beggining of this thread, them heeps are not worth it other than for a beer run.

Heard that the damn thing broke down or is having to be fixed before he could even get through Arkansas! Fawking Heeps!

details beeatch:D:D

Daryl was kind enough to weld a bracket onto the rear bumper so I could attach the trailer safety chains.

I'll post up a review of how Rubi did on the trip soon.

:flamingo:

Yep - Koyboys zip tie method of attaching the safety chains to the bumper left some doubt in my mind about fitness for use. Welded one on the Rubi Camper as well. It's all good!

Where's the darn bid'ness/money shot?

Where's the darn bid'ness/money shot?

Damn JP ... that's on the other friggin' thread.:rolleyes:

So I drank a coupla Daryl's beers while he fabbed and welded a thangy on the bumper to hook the safety chains too. Did a damn-fine job. Such a fine job in fact that I had 'im duplicate it on the Rubi Kamper as well ... while I drank a few more of his beers. :grinpimp:

So I know all you die-hard Cruiser fans are just diein' to know how Rubi done. :flipoff2:

Well ... she done good By Gawd ... damn good.

Pulled the trailer right along at 65 mph ... I know this 'cause Daryl had the cruise control set in the Big Red Truck ... and that's what Johnny Law clocked me at in Bumfawk, Arkansas on the way home.

He didn't give me no ticket though since I slowed down in town and all my trailer lites worked ... and yes ... he looked at the hitch and safety chains. THANKS DARYL!! :bounce2::bounce:

Once the weather cleared at the Crawl ... it was time to go crawl. Let the Cepek's down to 15 pounds so they'd hopefully get a lil' grip ... but without slidin' off the gen-u-ine imitation beadlocks. Peeled the doors and all the panels off the top for some open air wheelin'. Once I figured out how the locker switch worked it was a breeze to open and lock the front end on the trail and leave the back engaged. In 1st gear and 4wd low ... she crawled REAL nice ... even without my 4.88 gears I wanna get (they'd be better for the highway too though ... lotta shiftin' 'tween 5th and 6th). Took the hard lines on a 3-rated trail very nicely. Then tried a 5-rated trail for kicks and learned some great thangs.

Cepek's are great on the highway and did good on mild trails but just didn't bite the rocks like I needed ... especially at 15 psi ... and they're only 35's. So that means I got to try out the new winch. :D

Gave it a helluva try though ... smokin' tires and all. Carnage:

1) Bent one of the bull**** u-bolts that help hold the mountin' plate for the rear suspension (it'll be welded for the next run so them bolts won't be there)

2) Broke off the front licene plate ... and ran over it (due to some damn-bad spottin'). Repaired and replaced already ... and will remove next time right from the get-go.

3) Some rock rash on the purdy wheels and on the undercarriage.

Not a bad deal.

Reality is that she weren't designed for the 5-rated trails and I won't be persuin' that neither.

She pulled the Kamper 650 miles, wheeled, and then pulled her 650 miles back home. That's damn-near more miles than I've put on 'er the two years I've owned 'er. It opens up a whole new type of wheelin' vacations for me and I'm very happy with the set-up.

Some random thoughts:

The air compressor on the fancy Warn winch worked VERY well airin' back up the tires at the end of the event.

The fancy-ass headlights and PIAA drivin' lights were fantastic to light the way once I hit the backroads of TX.

Stopped ev'ry two hours on the roadtrip to stretch a leg a bit.

Ain't got no idea what kinda fuel mileage I got ... and don't care.

Whoever designed them zip-up windows on the side doors should be tarred and feathered.

Whoever designed the zip-up back window on the top should be shot ... hung from the neck for two days ... and then burned.
