So I bought a turbo 22rte cause the price was right, but I don't want to use the turbo stuff. I pulled the flywheel and exhaust/turbo parts off, but i left the turbo efi manifold on. can I just use the turbo efi manifold as a non turbo set up with the stock ecu and stock exhaust??? do i need to swap in the non turbo injectors? just wanted to check...thanks for any help....

AFAIK, the injectors have more of an output so retaining them on a non-turbo could cause poor(er) mpg, possibly even cooler running temps, IDK.

and...uh,,, a 7.5:1 c/r 22R w/o a turbo is gonna run like crap

the computer might have more of a capacity for retarding the timing, but should be fine to run.

Other than the timing capacity in the computer (and I believe the distributor), the head cc's, dished pistons and injectors the rest is the same as a 22RE AFAIK?

just get a better Turbo, adapt it or get a better manni, and you'll be fine?

A snorkel will keep you from having to get a costly intercooler, but it won't work as good as one.

The cam will be all wrong for running without the turbo. And, as Hilux said, the 7.5:1 compression ratio will not make much power without the turbo. Sell the 22RTE and by a rebuilt 22RE for your truck.

The computer should go into limp mode if it senses no boost. You will have to change out the ECU

You'll definitely need to swap out the injectors, they will pour too much fuel into the cylinders and you'll toast the pistons.

And ya, the cam needs to be changed.

I think you can "trick" the ECU into thinking is has boost, but not sure what that will do to the timing.

yikes!

it looks like the turbo is staying. i was going to pull the turbo and save it for another truck in the future because i plan on selling the 4runner once i get the motor in, but i'll just drop the 22rte in and sell it turbo and all.

thanks for clearing that up!

happy holidays to those of you that feel like celebrating any!!!
