Getting a puppy and seller rant

So, we've decided to get a lab puppy. We've been watching the local classifieds and finally found what looked like a good dog. Why can't people just be honest? The woman emailed my wife some pictures of the dog. We show up, dog she has with her is half the size of the one in the pictures. I asked when it was born. Oh, maybe 5 weeks ago. Uh, little early to be away from Mom? Oh, I don't know. Dog is very small and very skittish. I felt bad for it and almost bought it just to get it away from her. She had one price for papered and another without. I ask about getting the papers. Oh, do you really want to do that, it's such a pain . . . So, we left.

Get back and look at classified ad again. GIS "yellow lab puppies" and find the pictures she's fronting as her dogs about 3 pages in. WTF?

Search continues.

Find are reputable breeder. You'll be much happier. Especially with a lab. There are a lot of puppy mills.

You will find with a good breeder they will ask you for personal references, they want to know that there puppies are going to a good home.

Search wasn't long, found a good breeder today, went this afternoon and saw the pups, the people and us really hit it off, had a great feeling about them and their dogs. New pup is sleeping in her crate right now. Be up in a couple hours for a potty break . . .

I haven't hunted water fowl in years, I'm mostly upland birds now, when I do manage to get out. So, I imagine it'll mostly be a family dog, but will definitely be a water dog.
