Gear Shifter loose....

My shifter on my '89 62 is loose...any way to tighten/fix it?

what do you mean by loose? pulling out of the floor? lots of play in the shift gates?

If it has lots of play no matter the gear, then you can replace the two bushings at the bottom of the shifter. Look at a diagram at sor.com, and you will see the two nylon bushings I am talking about. You have to take apart the shifter to accomplish this. Not a big job.

It's an automatic, so I dont think welding would help. (I could be wrong) But it just has a little wobble all over while in the gears, nothing that keeps me from driving the car, but something,if I can do myself, would like to fix.

Yes, replace the bushings.

OK I found the diagram, but I'm not exactly which part I need to replace.

I'd be looking at 44 and 86 for starters. Look through the parts for bushings and start building your cart there.

Two 44's did it for mine. Like new now.
