1990 FJ62 when shifting from park to reverse the post moves to far towards neutral and fails to make an electrical connection with the reverse lights. If I push the post forward the circuit is made. How would I go about adjusting the post position so that the circuit is completed or is it a wiring issue? If it is wiring where is that circuit completed?

does the shifter have a lot of play in it? there are bushings in the shifter that wear out and need replacing.

these are just 2 of many threads on this:

I have replaced all of the bushings. This has not corrected the issue .

Thanks

did you replace the ones underneath on the linkage also?

is there any play in it?

I was not aware of the linkage bushing. Where is that ?

look underneath the rig, and you'll see a rod that goes from the floor shifter to the transmision, there is a rubber? bushing on each end.

i justed looked that the linkage and the bushings look good and everything is tight under the truck. I think it is a circuit issue. I assume that when the truck is put into reverse there is a circuit that tells the reverse light to go on, where is this circuit completed?
