I have not tank at all in my '74 55. I can get one made to fit the space, but was worried about a fuel sender that would have similar impedance as the fuel gauge in the dash.

Anyone have ideas of either a used tank from an alternate vehicle that might fit the space?
or anyone get me started on the sender that might fit if I made an aluminum replacement tank

Thanks
or clue me in how to figure out impedance of fuel gauge that is in the dash now

Best option is probably have one made or as you say, find a donor vehicle and hope the tank isn't a problem.

I think the best way to determine impedance is to start with a sender and measure at both extremes... I'd be afraid of killing the dash unit if you just start applying current without knowing the ranges. Someone on the forum likely has information.

I'll give them some time to chime in and if not, my tank is dry so I could pull my sender and get readings for you.

I'm guessing the impedance might be the same as the FJ40. If so, the 40 is 2.1 ohms at full, 4.5 ohms at half and 6.5 ohms empty.

Thanks, I was thinking that grabbing a random fuel sending unit may not match the gas gauge.
My understanding is that the operate in a range and are matched. If I can perhaps find a new fuel sending unit with no mechanical pump as a replacement; then I can build the tank to fit it

Thanks; I didn't see that!!! That's what I needed
