yes, I think I've shut that off.

Maybe making a little progress over lunch on route building. Basically there are 3 places where you can build routes and they connect with each other. The Explore web app is seeming like the best way to build a general route but you can't just select "Fins and Things". You have to just select enough point along the trail you want to travel and it draws a straight line between the points. After you build the route in Explorer, it will then show up in the Tread phone app (or i suppose an iPad). The read app seems to understand the rough route and selects the trail you intended. If you didn't build the route with a lot of points, it will auto selected what it thinks is the best way to get you to the points you selected. I believe this will then sync with the Garmin device when paired with your phone. Its just a little clunky but maybe after I get used to it, it will be fine. It puzzles me why Garmin just didn't put the same functionality in the Web app as they did in the phone app. The Tread phone app seems better than the web app except that you are on a small screen. Its really nice having a full screen with the web app.

I have yet to use the Tread off road. I'll be going to Cruise Moab in April and that will be the first use off road. Looking forward to that. In the mean time, I've build some runs myself and I think I have the hang of it but it still seems weird that you need to use the web app plus the phone app to do this. The best way for published runs like at Moab is to just load the FunTreks gpx files to the Garmin Explorer web app, then it syncs to your phone and the Tread unit. That works pretty well. I was also able to export gpx files from OnX to the Tread, so that's cool.

I'm currently downloading satellite images (I added a 250GB memory card). The download speed really sucks. The interface lets you size the area and tells you the size of the file which is nice. In theory, you can download a huge area into one 200 GB file but I don't think that would ever download without bombing out. I'm currently down loading a 25GB file for Moab and its going to take 4-5 hours. The bad part is that the download seems to fail when the screen times out. I've set the screen at 30 minutes which is the max.

I don't really build routes. I just mash a point on the map and navigate to it.

I need to add a memory card to mine

Where?! I use a Tread in my side by side... would like to kill off the nanny notices. Thanks

Settings---> Navigation---> Restricted Mode

I think that's it anyways.

Just got a Tread and have been using it to build my routes to SAS this summer from NYC. I’ve loaded the Tread app on my iPad which is nice as the screen is bigger. I have noticed a few bugs however:
1. When creating a route, if one tries to set a start and finish, then add a shaping point in between, the app puts the shaping point at the end instead of in between the start and finish. This is annoying as this defeats the purpose of a shaping point IMO. Workaround was to just create the route in chronological order, then all seemed to work fine.
2. I’ve noticed that total route lengths don’t re-calculate properly. I’ve sent the specific issue to Garmin using their feedback button in the app.

On a separate topic, has anyone had any experience loading a 3rd party Android app to track mileage/maintenance intervals? It would be great to have this on the Tread as my mechanical mileage on my FJ60 is a bit off now due to larger tires plus it would be nice to get reminders etc and have this logged electronically.

Noticed my tread operating very slowly- it’s pretty awful latency- anyone else experiencing this?

What actions are you doing specifically when you have the slow performance? I haven’t had any slowness while on the road yet or at home loading maps etc but admittedly I’ve only got a few hours of use logged so far.

Cheers, James

Tread worked great at Cruise Moab in April. Getting ready for COTR in Silverton and I added all of the San Juan trails gpx files to the Garmin Explore website, and I can see them in the iphone Tread app but they do not sync to the Trad Overland. When I did the same thing for CM it all worked great and the sync to the Tread Overland was automatic.

Ive verified that the BT connection between my phone and the Tread is good as both devices show they are connected to the other but when I go to the Route Builder screen on the Tread, it has a message on the top that says "connect to the Garmin Tread App". I can't for the life of me figure out how to do that. I'm about to call or IM Garmin tech support. From googling, it seems that some others have had a similar issue where the Tread stopped syncing.

Hey, I just had this happen and the resolution was to forget the blue tooth connection on both devices and then re-establish it. This worked for me.

Thanks, I tried that last night. I'll try again.

Is it just me, or modern Bluetooth F-ing terrible? I stopped connecting phones to vehicles because of stupid connection errors. I swear 10 years ago it was almost bulletproof.

I have issues with my garmin watch and the Tread randomly disconnecting from my phone. I've been blaming it on a 4 year old phone.

Tried again and no joy. Here is my Route Builder screen and the message up top.

The BT shows connected to my phone. I’m about to do factory reset.

My BT stuff all seems to work pretty well. Occasionally I need to repair devices. Currently the only time I have BT issues is when I've connected my phone to a boat load of devices. When overlanding my phone is set up as a wifi hotspot so my Tesla style HU has wifi, it is also BT connected to the HU so I have music, and then it BT'd to my Eco flow batteries, fridge and alt charger. Plus my Apple Watch. That is 6 BT devices. Sometimes one or more of the Ecoflow devices stops communicating. Not sure why. Its usually the alt charger that won't connect.

I noticed my Tread Overland didn’t like having two bluetooth connections to two different devices with the Tread app which is unfortunate. Just use the phone now so I get the weather etc

I forgot I also have the tread connected to my Tread so that’s another connection. What two BT connections does the Tread have? Isn’t it just one to your phone?

Update on Tread not syncing. I went to Garmin tech support chat and they had me do all the things I’d already done and it still doesn’t work. I contacted them again and the tech was helpful but was unable to fix it. He had me upload some screen shots and log files and opened a “case” for my issue. But now I’m in limbo waiting for them to email me with a fix. I just hope it’s before I head to Colorado next week.

Update: Good news, got it all working. Had to do factory reset of the device and delete/reinstall the Tread app from my phone. It was all a bit finicky, but the tech support guys helped. They are fairly responsive via chat.
