I need to replace a fuse box in a 1980 40 Series. The only part available is the cover not the fuse box itself.
There are other boxes available, like one for a ‘79. Available from City Racer.
According to City Racer I can’t change the fuse box in a ‘80 and newer because it is “wired in as part of the electrical harness”

To me I could cut the wires from the 1980 fuse box and rewire to the 1979 box. The configuration would be a little different but all circuits would be fused.

Any advise or solutions?

Thanks

Maybe Mark @65swb45 has a used one in his parts stash?

If you can find a solid oem fuse block for your 1980 FJ40 that would clean up nicely, that might be preferable.

The decision as to what fuse block to use on my 79 FJ40 was pretty easy, as it came with an oddball, burned up fuse block and was missing all oem connectors.

So, I opted for a City Racer type aftermarket unit and added individual spade connectors to my harness.

It did require some attention to the oem wiring diagram (compliments of @Coolerman) and some relabeling of the cover to make it work for my harness.

I recently dealt with this for a customer, I used the 73-79 City Racer fuse block, and got a set of the big connectors in good shape from a parts harness. Had to do a little re configuring but it is all the same # of circuits and amperages so it wasn't to bad. ToyotaMatt is going to be selling the connectors as reproductions soon

This was also on a non-USA harness so your end result should look exactly like this:
