I'm going to put my fuel tank behind the rear axle where the stock spare went in my 65 custom build. I thought I would see if anyone has sourced a tank for that spot that and save me some leg work. I will build my own if need be but want to check all the pre-made options before I spend time on building it. Got any advise tips or tricks ?

Don't know of a commercial source. I made one for the last SWB build. Pics are pretty explanatory:

You could try your luck and grab some estimated measurements of the spot you want to put it go to a camping store or 4wd store whatever you have there and see if one fits the estimated measurements?
Saves you making one and all you need to make or modify if they came with the tank is the braces to hold it.
Then some pluming :)

I was look at doing a similar thing but in front of the rear axle. I was looking at one of the 24 gal poly tanks on Summit racing

I used an old aux tank out of an fj40 in my swb 45

I just got my frame back from blasting - the PO bobbed it at the rear spring hangers so now I have to rebuild to fit the short Aqualu bed. Once I have a final measurements I will be on the hunt for something to fit. Still have to figure out a filler location - I really don't want to saw a hole in the side of the new bed so I'm thinking behind the license plate type set up ????

That set up looks really nice and not to complicated, back bumper info.
Keep looking at that bumper, looking good, how about a side shot.
Best---

I welded a couple tabs to the round tube cross member and used a piece of 1 inch square tubing across the inner frame braces and spare tire mount locations for the straps. A quick rattle can paint job and Bob's yer uncle. Ping me off line if you need better shots of the strap mounting locations.

Note: My rear cross member was in pretty bad shape, so I cut it (and 12 inches of the frame) out. This means that your application may look a little different, but the space for the tank is the same.

Coeman, hopefully this picture will help with the bumper side view. It was a quickie fab project before a wheeling trip to Colorado in 2012 that has yet to be replaced. A couple scraps of 1.75 inch DOM and a few left over plates.

Mine is similar to Jims. Circa 2009 built a cell that fit in that area with a stock Tacoma in tank pump because I am running a 3.4 taco motor. So nice to get the gas out of the cab! Plus I have about 30 gallons.
