fuel pump?

My 55 is definitely being a pig. As I cruz around town at low torquey rpms it has been coughing. It is like a back fire. It is kind of like when I am supper low on fuel. I replace the filter and still it backfires. It is random. Now at the stop light the engine will just die if I don't press on the gas a little.
Any guesses!

fuel pump is mechanical, so it either works or it doesn't. Probably fuel mixture at the carb.

I just had a tune up done, took out the point and put in electricle. Had the thing tuned up as well, and it ran great for months. What would make it just change up like that?

check your fuel filter. Have you gotten gas somewhere new?

The fuel filter is new and the gas was bought at a different place, after it started to backfire. I had hoped that it would be such an easy fix!

There's a little porthole window in the front of your carburetor and it's there for a reason. Clean it off and look through as the engine tries to run or die. If the fuel level stays in the middle of the porthole, it's not a fuel delivery issue.

looks like there is no compression in the third cylinder. Looks like I am doing the wrong thing when I put that thing together! I think that I have milled it too many times. Maybe it's a crack. Anyone got a head for a 2f ?

I had adjusted the valves. What would happen if I put a 3F head on. Would it work. Would it be stronger? Better gas milage? More power?

it would not fix the problem you are having.....how do you know the is lo/no comp in #3?And adjust the valves.x3
