what exactly does it do mine has been clicking on and off making low speed driving unpleasant , so i removed the ps kick panel and unpluged the harness after the vehicle was allready started and the problem went away but i cant shut it off , so now i just plug it in to stop and start but unplug it to drive , i am currently looking for a new one and have a couple of leads , from free to $400 . btw i removed it and cleaned the contact points and grounds still no help.

my guess is this obviously controls the flow of fuel to the fuel pump but why are there so many wires going into this thing does it also monitor oil presure and other things ? could i bypass everything except the ignition untill i get an other fuel pump relay ?

It's best described as an EDIC relay.

Check these wires when you are running and disconnected for intermittent power.
(on the edic plug)
wire b(connector b on relay) is the power wire from fusible link always hot.
wire BY is the power when igntion is on. gets it power thru the 15amp engine fuse.
Wire BW is the start power wire, should only get power when ignition is turned to start and held.
The YB wire is the wire to the low oil px switch. It has no power, it should be a ground wire when the engine is off and not be a ground when the engine has oil px.
The WB wire is your ground, comes off of E on the relay. Put your meter on here to ensure the resistence is 0. there should be no resistance here.

Test these wires. The other four wires go to the edic motor.

My guess you have an intermittent ground. So it makes and breaks.

I might be backwards on the low oil px swith. but the point is that wire is a ground. thru the oil px switch.

ok i changed the fuel relay and the problem still exists , so when i check for ground do you suspect the ground issue is with the oil presure sender ? do i need to check for ground at the edic motor or the edic relay ?

thanks kevin

Yah check the edic motor ground.

But also look at the battery ground cables. See what kinda condition they are in. Make take them off at each end and sand them down clean. I could see the battery grounds also causing this problem.

It might be a good idea to replace them. I have heard of this fixing edic problems before.

If you measure your cables, then you can get it bulk at napa. Go gauge 1. The Dude used gauge 1 recently. I was in Canadian tire and looked at the gauge 1, I think that would work best. Better starts too.

my relay has been giving me trouble too for a while now, I think my problem may be to poor quality oil, giving me low pressure at idle when engine is hot and oil is thin, my oil level is good. Then the relay shuts my truck off. I hope I can fix this with an oil change,
Not sure if this is your problem too,

cheers jim

In one oportunity my alternator was worn out .. and when I turn on the AC and light in the night the edic attempt to shuwodn my engine ..

solution alternator rebuild ..

Or you could jump the wires and try for a few days to see if the low oil sw is causing the grief. No problem bypassing it for the short term.
