Hi all,

I have a 1994 Land Cruiser, the 4.5L one, and it needs a new fuel pump . Is there a link to a thread about which fuel pump to get for a replacement? The OEM one is $450, but maybe a Walbro or aftermarket will do? Any info much appreciated!

I recently replaced mine in my '92 with a Denso from Amazon. Looked exactly like what was in there. Works like a charm. Fuel economy improved significantly which surprised the hell out of me. Job was far easier than I'd imagined. Be sure to have a new tank rubber seal on hand.

Hi paulzak,

Thanks for the reply! Ok because I keep getting told to only use OEM Toyota fuel pump but it didn't sound right because there are ones I am sure better than OEM. The rubber seal is the one that goes under the top of the 6 bolt oval top?

What are your thoughts on this one: Crown Automotive 5003861AA Crown Automotive Fuel Pump Modules | Summit Racing - https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cwa-5003861aa?seid=srese1&gclid=CjwKCAjw47eFBhA9EiwAy8kzNNTAXHfvQ2VozEyhq_aNuzpzrwAF1MqRNIdZSR9uycQLP-mp22B91hoC-YAQAvD_BwE

DENSO 951-0003 is the OEM pump.
Available at Amazon for around $100.
The OEM fuel pump is not a Denso, it’s made by Aisan.

Do I buy OEM or aftermarket? Thoughts?
The one I linked is the same as OE, decent price.

Are you certain it’s the fuel pump and not something else? Have you bypassed the fuel pump relay to confirm it isn’t that?

Well my father in law gave it to me and it hasn't been running for 7 years. But he said he was sure it was the fuel pump when it stopped running. Hasn't been turned over in years, but it has 195k miles so I figured replace it anyway since I am doing an entire engine, suspension and body rebuild.

Jump 12v from the battery to terminal #3 on the fuel pump relay connector. This will bypass the relay and force the pump to run. If it runs, the problem is elsewhere.

This is the connector layout. The fuel pump relay is located in the driver’s front fender, hanging off a small tab with an m8 (12mm head) bolt.

Denso or Aisin, as those guys noted above.
It is not made by Aisin, if you look at the pump itself, the brand name is Aisan.

That said I’ve only seen one fail and there were different circumstances which lead to its demise, typically the problem lies elsewhere.

I have killed a Denso fuel pump, though.

FWIW, I've been putting Denso fuel pumps in my Toyotas for 20 years and haven't killed one yet. YMMV...
