Fuel pump problem

1991 80 series 3FE (now chev)

I have jumped the diagnostic port under the bonnet to try and get fuel to flow through the fuel line. I can hear the pump pumping but there is no fuel flowing. To give some background, the fuel pump was new 12 months ago and installed in the vehicle but never used, so it has been sitting in a half empty tank for a year. Could the pump be wrecked because it has been siting around or is it something else remembering that I can hear it trying to pump?

I know there's a spring loaded check valve in the pump. Perhaps it's just stuck?

You're sure the fuel filter is in good shape? If it's been sitting for a year you might want to change it out.
