Fuel Grade question

What octane do you guys run? Just the regular 87? I was thinking of running the premium gas. Is that a bad idea? I wasn't too sure about all the additives and what not.

88 wyoming's lowest octane is 85, which they charge the same as other states charge for 87.

usually put 85 in my motorcycle though and the 40

Use the lowest octane you can without pinging. In general, higher elevation states have lower octane gas (petrol to some) for their "regular", because they can. FJ40s were designed to run on just about anything, and, unless there is a problem, they do. You can fine adjust the timing with the "octane selector" on the distributor if you do experience pinging with most setups.

So, I run the lowest octane gas at the pump, because it is less expensive, and there is no advantage to running higher octanes.

87 Octane - lowest available in MI. Works fine.

I run the lowest available in the 45 unless I think it'll be sitting for a while, then I'll throw 93 in it. I try to never run it dry.

I run 93 in the 68 LeSabre.
