ahhh :) :hhmm: so like my silly paint pic the dented/grooved/worn area is more of dust shield. Interesting.

Yep just a sheet metal cover, it goes to the green arrow. Have had them get mangled on the trail and removed them, running without allows debris to get into the splines, so they need to be replaced. The ones we have replaced came from spare shafts, never attempted to get a new one? By the way, your splines look dry, got grease gun?:hillbilly:

The shafts should be greased often, especially on a rig that is wheeled. The u-joints can be greased as much as you want, the excess will be ejected past the seals, no issue. If over greased the splines can be hydraulically locked, so care is needed. I put about 3-4 pumps in them when the shafts are greased, several times a year. Your's looks dry, I would put ~6 pumps in them and drive, in a thousand miles or so, should see a oil line form in the seal area.

whew..thats reassuring. thanks for that info tools. i thought that the sleeve was actually part of the driveshaft, and had nightmares about it twisting up and looking like a piece of twisted licorice.

TOOLS is the Man.

just like that, problem solved; with a cut-away pic and everything.

I heart MUD!!

Thanks Tools & Landtank :D

I kept looking at your pic's and thought, Crap, No wonder my drive line got ruined with my 2.5" OME lift, The PO put my front drive line backwards, I had a similar abrasion on the tube part of my drive line, I added some 2" aluminum blocks to my swaybar.
Good luck on the repair or usage.

It's not ruined, just needs to be retubed, a relatively common job for a good driveline shop.
