Like the title says. Has anyone popped the covers off the 2 speaker on the dash up by the front windshield (not the center cover)? Is there anything special I need to do or it is it just held on by clips? I'm trying to locate an annoying "tick" sound coming from that corner. Thanks.

get a good beer and take your time!

If you go on crutchfield, put in your vehicle and you'll find a bunch of really good photos showing you where and basically how to access every speaker in the 200 series.

Perfect time to respond. Lmao, as I'm prying it off already. Super easy to do. Thanks though.

So were you able to kill the rattle? I hate rattles... On my trip this last summer, I had the back literally packed to the ceiling... but packed SO carefully, there was not even a single gear/cargo rattle. OCD is a pain sometimes...

NOPE, i even had the TSB performed that i posted a while back (they looked at it and said its was done already) and its still there. Driving me nuts, it sounds like uncooked rice hitting the windshield in the area of the passenger side where the dash and glass meet. It only happens in the colder temps and is gone in the summer....but its starting to get to me now....my rattle OCD is flaring up.

Ohhh... Wasn't there a known pop related to the windshield itself? I seem to recall hearing about that some time back... Something related to windshield installation itself. Is that the TSB you're referring to?

yes

I think @MScruiser user graphite powder or something like that as a fix. Andrew- kick some knowledge!

Nope, I've never messed with the speakers before.

I had squeaks from the windshield. I fixed that with some RTV

Was that @arich that cured a front dash squeak with graphite powder?

@MScruiser i misspoke about the speaker deal, I was more or less talking about a squeak cure and thought you were in on it. My bad

Just don't let it happen again, Willy.

HA - ok sugar

Did you get this resolved? I've had my 200 for a month and put over 1k miles on it, and out of the blue tonight in the middle of an 80 mile drive I started to get a similar noise to what you describe. I pulled over twice to see if something was loose and couldn't find it. Sounds like it's coming from the front right where the windshield and dash meet. Funny thing is it was actually a decent bit warmer today than it has been lately, so it wasn't due to extreme cold.

Mud is wonderful. Where else can you go from finding a rattle and speaker grille removal to bears and old ladies smashing each other with their bags.....priceless!

Hey @Sinister

Had an idea... Are you SURE that's where the noise is coming from?

Here's my brilliant idea (haha).

While it's happening...use your phone to shoot video--but not so much for the video. -More for the SOUND. Our ears aren't as good at locating sounds, but your phone's microphone is VERY sensitive to *Proximity" to the sound. So... While shooting video, you (or a passenger) slowly move your phone back and forth along the dash and then play it back. The phone will pick up far more of sound when it's right near the click. Play the video back, noting where you phone was when it is loudest. -Once you figure out the closest spot, then do another one...slowly moving around JUST that area you identify in the first video sound...and see if you can truly pinpoint it. Then at least you'll be sure your ears aren't tricking you.
