Was-Front door removal: Now-rust fix

Hey guys, I'm gonna rebuild my front door hinges in the next few weekes and need to know what's the easiest way to get the front doors off? Unbolt the doors from the hinge and then remove the hinge or take off the whole thing first and then unbolt the hinge?

Not sure if there's any difference, but wanted to get some insight if there's any.

Thanks, ty

if the doors don't need adjusting as they are, mark the hinges on their pillars before removal to aid in lining them back up for installation. roll down the window, place jack stands under the door with a blanket for protection from dings if it settles hard onto the stands, the n unbolt the hinges from the pillars to remove the doors. they can be heavy one handed, so be careful. on the drivers side, you may wanna disconnect the battery. remove hinges from door once doors are on the ground. HTH

Get a friend to help. Makes all the difference- 10mins (with friend) vs 30mins with disaster postential (without friend). It's seems like it would be a problem if you dropped the door on the ground. I would take all the stuff out of the inside and sandblast the thing, and por 15 it, and and and and and and......

Welcome to pigdom! It's all in good fun!

I would get a friend to help. You can take 10mins with a friend or 30mins without with consternation included.

Before you remove why don't you take all the stuff inside out and sandblast and por 15 paint and recadnium the regulators and paint and and, and, and, and, .....

that floorpan looks GREAT! least rust I've seen in one so far without already having been reworked...

i used a floor jack and couple blocks of wood to unbolt the door from the hinges. have the window rolled down already so you can grab from the top section to set on the ground. i've always done door first just because i'm used to pulling doors only to weld them where they crack at lower hinge.

More stuff came off...

Got more stuff off this week. Now to get on with rust repair. Looks like the bottoms had some sort of repair done before. Not really sure what it was... looks kinda like a plate with bondo on top. Ughh.

before you weld, inspect real well to see if it's caved in a bit due to the rust. i had to build one of mine up a bit, but my door works like a modern car door now...no drooping at all when you pull it open and it swings shut perfectly.

Guess what I found when I started looking at the previous patch on the fenders! :crybaby:

Looks like some rust was cut out, a panel stuck behind w/o welding and then bondo'ed back up. Not too much damage but I wonder if I need to remove all the bondo skin under the paint or after I'm done can I just sand down the bondo at the edges and put better filler on top?
