Front Disk Brake Upgrades?

I will be getting a front disk axle soon but it doesnt have any calipers or rotors. Can I use 60 rotors and calipers? If not, are there any other substitutes from the 40 calipers and rotors?

40 rotors, believe they are fairly specific, different mounting setup that a 60....

calipers, IFS minitruck ones, V6, early 90's is what you want, better casting, some ribbing for heat dissapation....

Someone smarter will confirm, but I thinnk that's the combo

If the axle was a drum axle converted to disk, try to find out what parts were used to convert it. As Brian said, the rotors are either 76-80 pattern or 81-90 pattern. You can only use cruiser rotors but the 40,60, Toy and 4Runner calipers will bolt on. Another way is to take a look at the wheel hub and see what is the bolt pattern. 76-80 = 6 holes. 81-90 = 8 holes.

Nope, this is a 76-78 FJ40 axle, it just isnt coming with calipers and rotors.

So, can I still use the IFS calipers and IFS vented rotors?

IFS calipers, yes. IFS rotors, no. Different spacing between hub mounting surface and disk. Use 76-78 cruiser rotors.

76-80 cruiser rotors are the ones that are gonna take 6 bolts to mount them to the hub, vs the newer ones that have you knock the wheel studs thru the rotors to mount em. Big advantage of the newer ones, like the mini's and forerunners is cheap aftermarket rotors available. Those older 6 bolt unit ones are more spendy to replace.
