Thanks for all the help and advices you guys gave me.
The axle is in. I had to push down on the birf a little and the end of the story.

Now, I have to do the passnger side. The truck is sitting on jackstands. Before doing the passenger side, I have to lock the front. Stupid question. Start the truck, put in low and then turn the switch to Ft. position. Put back to park and turn the engine off, right????

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,
The axle locking is *only* if you have the F&R diff lock option. It would be a rotary switch on the dash just to the left of your steering wheel.

If you don't have that option then you cannot (and don't need to) lock the front diff.

oh, I wouldn't put it in gear on the stands...

Landtank,

I will be doing the right side (passenger) this weekend. Let me understand you correctly. I don't have to start the truck, just turn the key so both diff lock lighs become solid, then position the Rotary Switch to Ft position, take the key out. Then I have to rotate the brake rotor until it locks, right???? And then disassemble the rest. Does the RH side axle has two flat spots like the driver's side axle????

Thanks,
Alex

I don't know any short cuts to locking the diffs, I usually just push the cdl switch or (shift the tranny into neutral, shift the transfer in low), rotate the knob to RR/FT and wait for the lights to stop blinkiing. This is all done with the motor running and some back and forth movement of the truck. If that front diff isn't locked and you pull the shaft the lock sleeve (or whatever) can fall out of the fork and you'll be pulling the diff to put it back in. Which of course means yanking the DS birf again.

I'm not sure of the flat side but would imagine it's the same.

might be possible to get the front to lock by giving it electrical power and rotating a wheel back and forth while it's sitting on the stands, maybe... not sure

Well, my right side (driver's) is almost done. Didn't have the time to work on the truck during the week.
I am just about to install ABS sensor. I noticed the birf has a gear attached to it. The question is, does the sensor should just make a contact with the gear? I put the sensor in and it didn't go all the way in, didn't tightened the bolt yet.
Thanks,
Alex

Alex,

For some reason, I keep thinking you're not a US user, so your use of passenger and driver sides is confusing me. Stick with right and left since many here are from different countries to avoid misunderstandings. Yes there will be 2 flat spots on both sides. If you're having difficulty getting the ABS sensor in, then reconfirm you're assembled correctly. You shouldn't install this until everything's all together to be sure the axle is all the way in. But if the sensor is making contact with something in the birf and won't go all the way in and it's completely assembled, then something's amiss. It should definitely not touch the ABS ring (gear ring on birf).

As Doug stated above, this is opposite of what we have here in the US as our drivers side is the left. It's been confusing to say the least.

DougM,

I am in US and my 93 FZJ80 is a LHD. If you face the front of the vehicle, the right side is the driver's side and the left one is the passenger side, right!!!!!
Thanks for an advice about the ABS sensor. I was trying to install it before the free wheel hub and snap ring. I will reinstall it tomorrow and it should be fine.

Thanks,
Alex

the right side of the behicle has nothing to do with where your standing and how your looking at it. It has a front, back, left and right side the same as you do. Orientate yourself so that your front and back are the same as the trucks and then match up the left and right sides.

If indeed your truck is LHD, Left Hand Drive, the the driverside is on the left.
