Front Axle ID?

I have an 87 runner with 'AUTO' locking front hubs. I would like to change to Aisin Locking hubs...How do I determine the spline number of the axle? 26 or 30?...Do I remove the old cover to just count the notches? Sorry for the Newb question.

You just need IFS-era hubs. You will also need to swap over the locknuts inside the wheel hubs, at the bearings.
