fridge , who makes a good one?

Well it s*** the bed so I need a new one :frown: so much for the bonus I got from work on Thursday and the OT from the storms that rolled thru .

who makes a good one and has coils that you can clean easy . The one in there now has a "W" shaped coil now that only allowed the fst to be cleaned the rest you cant get to unless to took it outside and turned it over so you can see only 20% was cleanable :doh:..

So whos the brand thats good at the moment ?
 
Consumer Reports is essential reading for that.
(but I don't recall they ever commented on coil cleaning accessibility - indeed a great idea)


in case you were thinking of splurging: IMHO, stay away from built-ins (although mine is easy to clean the coils of)
 
found something

The Cruiser :princess: and I went on the hunt hitting all the usual suspects in the appliance sales (lowes,HD ,Bestbuy ect.) anything we liked and would fit without any trouble was $1600 and up so I remembered a local store that buys brand new but scratch and dent units from the warehouses off the manufacturers with a full warranty .We found a GE Profile french door upper and freezer below lists for $2k, cheapest for the same found was $1800 at the big boys and the scratch and dent place $990.
The coil is semi easy to clean from the rear so thats good too
A dent in rear of unit ( I might have put that when I loaded in my van ),one on the right side which is against the wall and a small dent under the freezer door handle that can be only seen when your laying on the floor.
I'm so glad I remembered their weird name and radio adds from years ago . I told the owner who was great to work with and glad to help out a small local business at the same time . He also gives all the old but still good appliances he picks up to the local woman's shelters in the area

so a :cheers: to Uneeda Appliance for being a great local business and helping out local place which is hard to find now a days .:bounce:
 
I've also been looking for a new/replacement fridge, after my current one had a compressor replaced and the repair man assured me it was only a matter of time before the replacement went as well. Seems the old time "Fridges" that you forgot until 40 years later when you got tired of the "Avocado green" are a thing of the past. Apparently all the compressors come out of the far east now.

Open to any suggestions - I also want another dependable "back-up" for the basement including old "warhorse" recommendations. I am not sure the concern about energy inefficiency of the old timers is that big an issue when they serve in a place where the door is not opened that often. And being able to plug them in and forget them is great!

got one too that came with the house. Had a problem early on but it's been fine for the last 15 years or so. If pretty noisy actually.

But I was thinking more of the problems associated with the replacement (sizing, fit etc) of a built-in and mostly that they are ungodly expensive. I can't see myself paying $7,500 just so it looks a bit more integrated.

Was yours easy to replace and fit in, cost aside?

In the basement ( and its a basement ,as in concrete block walls with lime stains running down them and open rafters ) where they have the outlet for the new scratch and dent stuff theres some of the old appliances they have pulled out all lined up from the 1920s on up . Really cool stuff like an old unit with the compressor and coil on the top , stoves that were mostly cast and porcelain, washers with the top set of ringing rollers, the round top fridges from the 50s and the ugly avocado green , harvest gold and that nasty brown from the late 60s and 70s
