Only 3 more years for me! Dang! Then the real expense begins... College!

Two years for our house.

I'm just glad I don't have to gripe at him about grades/effort for three months!

We bought tuition plan for MS and have been socking away $100 a kid a month since birth so college around here will be a $1500 a month raise!

Yep. Jace's in-state tuition is paid for. So all we will have to cover is books/computer, housing, clothes, fraternity?, food, gas... Damn, I better get back to work!

Screw college. I'm telling my kids to do whatever Jrob and Chris do...

Stacking that paper!

Arkansas has crazy income restrictions so no help there for us. Both girls got some help from scholarships but trust me... You can't be too prepared. Three years to recover and then the last one starts. So much for retirement. :(

LA is pretty solid in this regard. State backed, tax free mutual funds that can be used at any school, and they will guarantee a portion of your investment. Started my daughter's 3 months before she was born.

The tuition plan for your state is the best deal if you buy it early. Our plan is so good its not even offered anymore......its a loser for the state.

Problem is, if you don't have roots somewhere like we do, you don't know what state to buy from.

Get with your insurance agent, he/she will have a 529 plan. Its a great start. We had a lump sum from a property sale and we bought the MS Tuition plans. We could have just as easily bought something stupid like we normally do but we had a moment of clarity

Same here. After Amanda was diagnosed with MS, she wanted to be sure that no matter what happened to her, Jace would go to college. Fortunately she and I had a few very productive years just prior. Her health has stabilized and college tuition was paid for when he was 4. Not to mention, she's a great Mom.

I was able to transfer 36 months of GI bill to Neely. That is some serious money these days. Not like when I went to College. I got $500 a semester and $190 a month. These days the GI bill will pay for just about all of it. I guess that it one good thing that will come from 35 years in uniform. Damn, 35 years! Got 27 now!

The MS prepaid plan was closed temporarily for an actuarial audit. It will re-open in the fall, although, what it will look like post audit is yet to be seen.
