FR Rack and Yakima SkyBox

I wasn't sure where to start this thread, so move if appropriate.

With the horizontal running slates of the FR rack, would it be possible to mount a Yakima SkyBox? If not, could load bars some how be fashioned to the FR rack?

Go ahead and delete thread. Well maybe not as I read in that thread there really isn't a designed solution to make a Yakima or Thule box work. Paul suggested a fab solution (really couldn't envision it but will re-read) and maybe contact him.

Any updates on this issue from anyone?

The other option is to use the FR rails, put the control towers on, load the cross bars, and then add a Yakima or Thule box on top.

With this option you'd only be using the FR rails and no FR rack on top. Everything else is Yakima and/or Thule - towers, cross bars, and box.

Make sense?

How did you attach the Skybox to the FR rack?

Sorry Pegasis - but not my vehicle. So don't know.

I found it when searching prior to my purchase of the FR a couple years ago.

If you click the link above, it looks like the Skybox fits pretty snug to the FR. Here's another pic.

Since the space between the FR slats on both the 2.2 and 1.4 meter racks are the same, you'd probably just need to make sure the mounts on whatever box you choose will fit the slats.

Check with Paul at Equipt though, he's surely sold one to someone who has put a box on top.

Never done the sky box personally but a lot of the Yakima clamps will fit right around our slats without bolting.

I will try to dig up some more if I can. Unfortunately that photo was sent to me from a customer. I think he got it installed at Slee though, so they might actually have more hands on experience with this than me.

Those are Yakima universal mighty mounts that fit around the slats.
