I just received a Four Seasons receiver dryer #33403 (as it seems that the Denso aftermarket part # 478-0101 is not R134a compatible). However, I have gone to install it and notice that, unlike the Denso part, there is no labelling of which port is input and which is output. Does anyone have any insight into which way round the ports are? I struggle to see that it could be reversible.

Thanks

Thanks. There certainly isn't anything on mine, could you show me a picture of yours if it's still around?

Did a quick search and it actually says IN on one side. Mine is exactly the same.

Well, I just went out to the car (it's dark here) to take a picture to show you there was no marking, and under the phone flashlight I saw a very faint 'IN'. There's so much paint on it that it's invisible under ambient light, only with the strong flashlight at a low angle does it become faintly noticable.

And, of course, I had it on the wrong way round (though I have not taken the caps off yet so no problem with that).

Thanks very much indeed for your info!

Did The Four Seasons unit require some shims to fit the OE bracket ?
Yes, I stuck some 5mm foam rubber around the canister to get it to fit snugly.

It's also slightly taller than the original.

Some time ago you posted that you tired or were looking at Denso Drier/accumulator 478-0101 but were not sure of the desiccant.

I've since found that Denso 478-0100, equivalent to OE# 88470-12050, 88470-12070, MB199882 AND Four Seasons 33403 (used above) is compatible with R12 and R134a, like the Four seasons unit. Probably the same desiccant. Supposedly it's the R134a replacement for those units, but it's not what's listed in the TSB.

Application is Mid 80s Cressida / Corolla and late 80s Mitsubishi.

I haven't bought one yet to see its dimensions and if threads are the same - just putting this out there. Unit is around $25 ish USD for anyone who wants to try, although the Four Seasons is readily available and cheap.

EDIT: Dimensions (diameter) are the same as the FJ60 stock unit, so no spacers required.

Thanks for sharing, but damn, I wish I'd known about this a couple of weeks back. I just had a parcel of parts shipped out from the US (and vowed never to do that again) and the incorrectly sized Four Seasons item is one of just a handful of aftermarket parts on my rebuild!
