i didn't know we had this many people in houston. im on the north side. im slowly building up my 40 for a trail rig. maybe in a month or so ill have something to actually look at. where is BVORR?

m1gz, if you need things welded let me know. i can talk to my friend and see if he has time to make a little extra cash. hes a welder for a big company over by me.

txbx you seem to got alot of skill fabbing, hoping to get to that skill level some time

the past week i used duplicolor bed liner to coat the floor and bed area of the runner, its really cheap but we will so how well it holds up. I like how smooth it is so hopefully it wont hold the dirt in as bad as my last job using hurculiner. I coated it really as thick as i could with a gallon in the high traffic areas like the foot areas and the bed.

From the experince Ive had in our Scrambler and my K-5, you will get, essentially, a nitrous shot for rust in some areas and in others itll shrivel up in like the skin on some 90yr old woman. Then after it does one or both, itll flake off with your finger nail.

They had never ran into the shrivel problem, but its something to do with chemicals GM used in there version of an undercoating. The rust was do to 'spreading it thin'. I call BS because we sprayed the bottom of the scrambler tub with over 3 gallons. It wasnt thin.

Maybe the toyota gods look kindly on your case, mine not so much...

Ive written 3 letters to duplicolor for those reasons, the first one on the shriveling, the second on the acclerated rusting, and the third on lack of customer care. The third one got me an apology letter, two free gallons of the bed liner (which i sold promptly) and a cool sticker. Which i kept.

Good luck! Im enjoying the cage, i cant wait for a finished product!

There is a pretty large group of Toyota people that wheel often here in Houston. BVORR is by far some of the best wheeling to be had around these parts.

Best part its only about and hour away in college station.

Below is a link to a local toyota club and to BVORR.

T4x4T - Toyota 4x4 of Texas This is an awesome group that is all about wheeling no politics no BS just wheeling.

wish i had the balls to take my DD out to the trails, they look like alot of fun and much better than anything else in our area, but cant afford to mess it up.

Yeah, i am probably going to get another gallon to spread around. It just didnt go on as thick as i want. Even just with building the cage i have chiped it off in some spots dropping tube and tools on it.

I just liked the smooth texture of it. I did hurculiner before, and once i got that stuff dirty i could never get it clean again. This seemed like it would wipe clean pretty easily.

As for the cage, I am supposed to be getting my dom in the next couple days and start putting something real together. If i can remember to i will bring my camera on lunch and snap some more shots of the mach-up.

ok, small update. Looks like i have picked my lines for the cage and have most of my measurements.

I changed the b pillar tube a bit. I know its not as strong as it stands now but there will be some bracing to compensate. This way i can still fold the seat down and it lands right on top of the body mount without bringing the pillar any closer to my head!

The C-pillar foot bolts right were the factory cage did and the rear leg of the cage lands right on top of the rear body mount. I'm getting pretty stoked.

ok, well its a late night here at the shop...i kinda got on a roll and could hardly stop. And i hardly ever have a free night like this so it was time to get to work!

Basicly, i built an entire mach up cage. I am ordering jussst enough DOM to build the cage (at nearly 4$ a foot you gotta make it stretch) and want to make sure i have all the measurements ready for the 'sacred steel'.

So here it is missing a couple of little pieces and some body plates. I will end up adding a seat belt bar later when i get some seats for it.
