I got a call from Rick Ellsworth of the Forest Service. He asked if club members would be interested in another vehicle recovery. The location should not be discussed to reduce the chances of vandalism to the vehicle. The vehicle has no damage and can probably be driven most of the way, it is just in the wrong place and will need to be winched or strapped along the rough spots on the trail.

Meeting place will be the Shoppimg Center in Divide at 8:00 on Jan 15 leave at 8:30. Specific details will be given at the meeting spot.

Weather may change this from a simple recovery to something more challenging.

Please volunteer through this thread.

I'm tentatively in. Depends on hunting plans.

I'm in!

Sounds similar to the last recovery we did.

Some winching to get the vehicle up on the trail and then steered it out.

That on did have some damage on it though.

I'm in, confirmed that is, for the recovery on Saturday. I'm hunting pheasants on Monday. Should be a fun weekend:D

Is the shopping center the one on the northeast corner of Hwy. 24 and County Rd. 5?

Here is the count so far.

Confirmed:
Luke
Chuck
Leon
Andy
Vic

Tentative:
Ryan

Now we can play tug of war with two winches in the back and two in the front.

Don't forget to take a camera along for some pics...for us with LC's in pieces....:p

The recovery went smooth. Tom from the FS law enforcement managed to get the doors open and the Explorer started. The transmission was not working very well. Gary steered the Explorer as I pulled it.

Report

We all met up at about 8:30. Me Neil (who slept almost the entire time), Luke (with Yoda and another), Chuck and MIke, Jeff and Karen (soon to be HAM), Vic and Gary (HAM guy by the way). The abandon ford Explorer was down towards the Hackett area, not the same road but the general area. Snow wasn't too deep, in fact the Explorer was on dry ground. We drove past the Explorer a bit, by the time we got back up the Forest Service guy was there. He had about 7 boxes of 50 keys (some type of masters). He finally got one to start the truck. It ran fine but the tranny was shot. Gary steered it out and Chuck (with 4 chains) towed it out rather uneventfully. A bit surprising as there were some tight turns and a few deeper areas of snow. I was in front all chained up in case Chuck needed help. Luke was behind with 2 chains in case we needed assistance on the backside of things. Then we got a call that Vic had broken his throttle cable back down below where the Explorer had been left. Luke went back to help the others. They eventually got it fixed and that was pretty much it. I'll let others correct and add in more. Sorry we missed you Andy.

Chuck got to it as I was typing, had a feeling that would happen.
