just ordered a set for my truck. How long a shock should I run with this set up? My lower mounts is going to be about half way down the front axle.
Would it be possible to run the ford towers without cutting the inner fender? I'm considering them rather than the marlin hoops. It would be on a 62 with SUA using the stock bottom shock mounts. Kavik posted a pic of his tower tacked in (post #8) and it looks like it would work without cutting the fender. He mentioned the shock angle was too steep but I think it would be fine for me whille running smaller tires.

I made them fit with bumping the fender liners but no cutting. I'm running OME springs SUA and using an 8" stroke Fox shock mounted to the top of the axle. The OME shocks had less stroke than do the Fox's.
The pic shows where I had to move the liner. And yes, I'm still degrungifying the truck.

I got a set of these and modified them a bit for only a 2-3" SUA and a better shock angle. I cut about 3-4" out of them, then notched them back to be more vertical.
Exactly what I did, but kept them full length. I'm running 14" RS9000's. (Your pics are better than mine)

Fox shocks on a SUA rig? Overkill?
The truck's going to see mostly medium to high speed desert roads. Lots of miles of washboard. I had them, they're used off the rear of a Mini desert racing chase truck, and I'm done with using anything else (like Rancho, OME, etc.) on a keeper.
Makes sense. I could see shock fade being an issue on high speed desert roads.
I put those ford towers on today and something looks wierd. I notched around my towers about a quarter inch like I saw here on mud. This may be a stupid question but did you guys do anything to keep road spray, mud etc from entering into the engine bay? seems like cold water slinging off the tire onto the hot headers would be bad. Is this a concern or am I a worry wart?
