All of the running gear is still attached to the 40 except the T & T which I have already pulled and It is sitting in the tub. The 76 parts 40 hasn't been run in a long time but the po said the the T & T worked when the motor quit. The axles are good just rusty.

All running gear is there and I have 2 sets of 40 oem springs. It would be a huge improvement in overall strength. My next door neighbor has a tj and I can't get over how small in diameter that his axles are, they are tiny. I guess that he has dana 30 axles I am not that familiar with the newer jeeps. I grew up with the old cj5, cj7, Golden Eagle and Renegade's. They are like the LC to me I love them. Brings back great memories from long ago.

Looks like you will fit in fine with this bunch of .............
I shouldn't say that.
Welcome, Maybe I could find a use for the 40 axles under my Jeep??

Brock, sounds like I am going to have to keep an eye on you. Don't be trying to snuggle up to my Betsy while I am not looking.
I get jealous. :flipoff2:

sounds like a stripper I knew in college... :D she was also in my Accounting class as a Freshman. :D

I've got an84 Cj7, and the front Dana 30 has a 7 1/2 in ring gear. I've got 4.88's to put in it, but the pinion gear is less than 2 inches around. I'm planning on running 37's, so it's only a matter of time before it breaks.

Free parts

Again first come first serve. I really would like to get the parts cruiser to a central location where our members could get what ever parts off that they need. Right now it is in my back yard. I want the parts to be used. There are some components left on the block and running gear is solid but most everything else was already off of it when I got it. It came with Betsy so I didn't complain. I do have the title to it but never registered in my name. I am not charging for parts that is too much hassle and I know that they will be used instead of going to waste. I really don't want use the running gear. Because of the differences between the 73 and 76 and planning on doing the 62 knuckle swap.

David, that 76' axle with a set of Longfields would be great with your 37's. It would be a huge upgrade from your Dana 30.

You could have a locker with 30 spline chromo's and a 9.5" ring gear with better brakes for $1000.

Thanks guys for looking for the fj62 axle. I guess that I need just from the knuckles out. I am going to do the disc brake conversion from the 62 to my 73 front axle with longfields. I have 76 fj40 axles but hate to tear it apart in case somebody needs it in the future. As Jim has already stated I do have full 76 running gear and the 4 spd. tranny & trans. already pulled. I origionally planned on using them but now I am not going to. I am not looking to make money off the parts. I just want them to go to someone who can use them so they don't have to buy them. Yes Jim has convinced my to join the club.

lextechautomotive- I do have the 76 disc 40 axle that you are welcome to. It is rusty but nothing sandblasting won't cure.

Thank's again, Greg

Not to rain on anyones parade that might be wanting a deal on this axle, but you know the only difference between a 76' FJ40 axle and an FJ62 axle is the axle housing width, inner axle lengths, and the FJ62 has a higher diff ratio. If all you need is the stuff to do a disc conversion, you already have everything you need in the backyard.

Jeremy

I was under the impression that the 62 knuckles were stronger than the 76. How about the spline count between the two. I also thought that the disc brakes were larger and better on the 62 than the 76. I may need to re-think this. I haven't done this type swap yet so I am in no means an expert. I want the strongest possible setup that I can have. Any advice is appreciated. I have read numerous threads on mud about this but it all starts to run together after awhile. I do not want to do a total 62 axle swap on my 40.

Haven't done the research yet on the 62 to 40 disc axles swap yet but in my experience from 25 yrs with toyota and lexus i don't think this is a viable option. I think Jeremy is correct in that you already have what you need in the backyard. Eventhough that would put me out of what i'm looking for.

I am so glad that you were able to sell the top. You had a question on fitment in the ongoing thread in the 40 section. I don't know if you are going to answer. I would hate to see someone else get caught unless Travis is handling the fitment issues. I would highly suggest any of our members wanting to buy one to talk to Jim first. Not trying to cause hard feelings between anybody just be informed before you buy. Take a good hard look at the pics Jim posted of the top and you will see some of the issues that Jim and I found.

The 81'+ FJ40/FJ60's received vented rotor upgrades then, but I don't think the calipers are any different. Usually when you get a donor axle for the conversion the calipers need/should rebuilding and the rotors need replacing. If you want all new, then you upgrade to FJ60 vented rotors, and buy new Mini Truck IFS 4 piston calipers. I believe you can upgrade to the vented rotors first and then swap out the calipers later, but that is the best Land Cruiser front disc setup you can get. I am running this setup in mine and they stop my 38's great.

The knuckles were upgraded to the larger pattern in 76'. I have not extensively researched the difference between the 62 knuckles and others, but if they added anything it would be minimal at best. If you really want the best knuckles and steering studs possible, then you need a set of 6 stud knuckles from Trail Gear, and then a set of 4x4Labs high steer arms for them. Depending on how hardcore you plan to ride will depend on the extent of how far you will need to go with this.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Jeremy

I was wrong about the knuckle pattern. 76' is still the small pattern. If you plan to run longs, then stay away from installing this set. However you could still use the lockouts, hardware, hubs, and spindles and buy everything else new.

Keep in mind that you will need new steering arms with the larger pattern knuckles. 4x4Labs is your friend for those.

It looks like Glenn would be best served with this axle, as it will be a nice upgrade for a mild wheeler/stock driver running 33's or less.

David, you will need the larger knuckles just like he is looking for. Or a set of Dana 44's from a Waggy or Wide track CJ.

Thanks Greg,
I need to answer the post and I imagine I will......its hard when you want to take the high road, but at the same time feel like you and anyone else who might purchase from that seller are getting a pretty bum deal.......
The problem is, until someone says something, that soft top thread, with over 33OOO views looks like a pretty good selling tool for that top......Thats probably why the guy didnt sell the top on IH8mud - hoping he'd sell that top to someone that wasnt on mud......thus destroying what appeared to be a good rep for a decent top......

Winchester Model 70 .270 Rifle

I am selling my .270 Winchester bolt action rifle. It is the synthetic stock model with a factory scope. I don't think I even ever shot it. The dealer will give me $400 trade for it, but I need cash to pay for another gun I bought online. So I will sell it for $350 hoping for a quick sell. I can send pics if anyone is interested.

$350

Thanks
Jeremy

I am not sure, did they only put that on select models when they started making these in 92'? I believe this was bought in 2001. I think I read somewhere about that feature on the 'Classic' model but not sure on mine. What should I look for, a fully supported claw holding the round as it is chambered or something?

Jeremy

all the Pre-64 models were controlled feed...then they did it again on the M70 Classics and Featherweights. If yours is synthetic stock then it is likely the regular feed not controlled feed. Yeah the claws grasp the cartridge and hold it during the feeding process....rather than just pushing it up the ramp into barral.

Ok, it's an M70 combo set. It has the synthetic stock so it probably doesn't have it.:meh: But it's a $350 rifle made in america. You interested?
