I side Keith as far as the potential earnings go on a vw diesel.

I did the same with my jetta. Yes I had to spend about $3k in maintenance over 150k miles but with mileage reimbursement I earned about $7k above all my expenses including the purchase.

If you are racking up the miles then I would not want a newer car though, Just a cheap one that gets really good mileage.

P.S. I would not listen to Zack, he has a long history of making terrible decisions when it comes to vehicles.

Yeah, I hear ya on the "cheap that gets good mileage" which is where the golf came in. I really enjoy driving it too. In the 2dr with a 6 speed, that little torquey 140hp bastard will scoot around. It's quick. Unfortunately the "occasional driver" from "daily driver" insurance difference on the cruiser wasn't very good. Also, we don't really have space for three cars. Dunno. I'm not 100% set on an Outback. That's just the top in the running right now. Once I sell the cruiser I may drive the golf for a while longer while I keep considering options.

Yeah. Agree. It's part "better value" and part "want something different" plus part "wife's sick of three cars" (that's a sizable piece of the pie graph) with a dose of "damn, this new Subaru is nice inside." Not strictly financial, but if I'm going to do it, I'm going to try and do it in the best bang for the buck way that doesn't put me in something that needs work often, hence, new or low miles.

We traded my wife's grand Cherokee for a used TDI primarily due to mileage. I don't have the math handy but going from 17 mpg to 45+mpg made the payback relatively quick. I would also say if you can look at a used low mileage car that can get you away from a car payment all together then your math becomes much more attractive.

Once you don't have a car payment anymore you will never want one again.

Truck sold. Coming soon to a forum near you.

Keith's 100 resides in Prattville now. The 40 was getting lonely.

Matthew achieved baller status last night by meeting us at a white tablecloth restaurant, passing me an envelope with a check and $4,500 in banded $100 bills, having a martini, leaving with a valet ticket, and driving his new vehicle home. To be honest, I had 4. Martinis that is. Then saw Keb-Mo. Turns out it was a good thing I sold the vehicle I drove to the restaurant in.

Reading that sorta sounds like douche status for me. But I like baller status better than douche status. So we'll stick with Keith.

That's what I told him!

If someone wanted a cheaper CattyMapping bumper... I'd sell them this one and add cash to buy Sam's...
