I think square is quieter too. could just be anecdotal.

I like quieter.

and If you have any rack designs in mind that might be better I am not dead set on that exact one... I just like the 3 sided basket so I can still get to the zipper on my tent.

there is one floating around here that I REALLY like, but of course I cant find it now....

I drew a picture.

I want that bar in the back so that I can lay stuff over my tent. Like when I need to carry a boat/2x4s stuff like that.

I'd like to copy the gamiviti mounting plates.

If this is reasonable I can go measure my tent to see how tall I would need those bars to be so that I can lay stuff flat above it.

I assume the rack will be more than the flares.

Let me know what you think.

roof rack. .webp

So... you want the bars to cross? and be red?

maybe so, let me price it out and see what I come up with. I want a rack like that too and know several guys in the club have asked about something similar.

Could be interested in this. I'm supposed to have other metal in June I will need to get you to bend as well!

I am on the hunt for some factory steel toyota wheels, I'd rather have 16" than 17" but there seems to be more of the steel wheels off fj cruisers than anything else...

I was going to suggest you make the front basket removable but just reread this and saw that you want it to be tall enough to lay stuff over the tent. It might make more sense to put a bar directly in front of and behind the tent that was about the same height and do the basket shorter, but either way is just as easy assuming I can get the square tube bent. I will try to pick up a piece this week to test bend and then I will know for sure how hard it will be.

The problem with bars right in front of and behind is fitting my hand in between the bar and tent while working the zipper. Steve told me the thing he really doesn't like about his rack is it being 4 sided makes it hard to do the zipper.

Did my drawing make sense? Are you going to be able to make it to coffee Saturday?

ah, I see. Removable would probably work best. Another cool thing about the square tube is that you could install nutserts and bolt anything you want to it. Probably so on Sat, just have to see what is going on.

Cool. Well I hope I'll see you then. I'll bring my flares. And we can talk about what's going to be removable, because i don't follow what you are talking about there....

I think he saying have a bottom and a removable basket (or sides).

Ok, I jumped to the conclusion the whole front of the rack ahead of the tent would be removable....

Removable or not. What ever is quicker and easier to build.

Correct. And/or load bars that are taller than the tent.

Ok yea my understanding would have been crazy difficult. I just realized my hitch haul is basically exactly what I want on the front of my rack. So we can check that out Saturday.

My old company has 10 Pelican 1600 cases left with no foam. They're demo units with scratches but still function.
$60 each if anyone wants one, lemme know....
