When FJ45 rear springs are flipped how many inches does it increase the wheel base?

I am looking at building an FJ43 using a Heritage FJ43 tub.
The FJ43 (factory) uses an FJ40 frame lengthened 14" aft the wheel and uses FJ45 springs for a 96" WB.

I would like to move the rear wheel back 4 or 5 inches further, modifying the wheel well of course.

I have looked in the Tech Section and used the Search Button, but can't find
how much the WB is increased by flipping 45 springs.

Hi Allen,

I went down and measured the rear springs on my FJ45 LWB. The springs were mounted to the frame so I measured from the inside of the loop to the centering pin and got 24 1/4" both ways. So it looks to me like there would be no gain if you are considering fliping the springs 180 degrees so the front of the spring is mounted to the rear pearch. Now that is not to say that over the last 43 years someone hasn't sneeked in and switched springs on me. :D

Cheers,

Jim

You are correct, the rear springs are centered. No wheel base will be gained from flipping the springs.

abosely: You might look into HZJ75 springs. They may push your wheel base back some. I can't get you some measurements if you want.

Thanks Guys,

GC yes if you can get some HZJ75 measurements that would be great.

On FJ45 rear springs does the axle have to be exactly in the center (or on spec) or can it be mounted slightly off center to the rear?

I'm not talking 4 or 5 inches but maybe 2 or 3 inches to the rear.

You could have Alcan Spring make you rear springs with the center pin where you want. They will build them to your spec. Great company to deal with.

75 springs are 50.75" long, eye to eye on the horizontal plane.
Fixed end to center pin is 24.5"

I put these on the rear of my 55 and only had to move my shackle hanger back about 5".
I have not looked at how they would fit on a 45. Maybe, I'll go out and check a 45 p/u.

Edit: So I went out and looked at a 45 LWB p/u and they measure 49" on the horizontal and the center pin is centered.
The 75 springs are only 1.75 longer. If you end up flipping the springs, you will only push the rear axle back about 1.75" or 2". Probably not worth the effort.
