hey guys, whats a flex shackle? and what the heck does it do? or look like! thanks!

Here is what flex shackle (revolver shackle)is.They are mainly for jeeps because they need all the help they can get.

Now how they work is like a buggy leaf. When the spring reachs it max drop then shackle opens up and lets it drop more. Now I have heard that they are kind of squirlly going down twisty roads and under breaking now thats just my opinion.

This has been covered a couple of times in the 60 forum, and in the last thread that surfaced, wagoneer5's old white 62 was pictured sporting them. The amount of drop that he was able to get with those shackles was absolutely incredible. He used the superior engineering shackles however, which I understand are heavier duty, but much more expensive.

I run them on my 85 the revolvers are very heavy duty and have grease zirks ...so you can grease them. I really have never had a problem backing down hills? they pinch towards the front so going backwards down a hill they would to nothing....

they are fun on the street if your truck has any balls at all, when you get on the gas for passing or from a stop they actually lift the truck about an inch.... :)

these are the best pic's I could come up with. They actually work MUCH better since I have moved my shocks inward, the way the stock shocks bolt up are really bad for flex

My friend has the Johnny Joints on his 92 SAS. They actually work really well. I dont ever plan on running them because i have enough flex as is, but his rear end just continues to droop out, its almost impossible for him to lift and a tire and all he has is double shackle with a johhny with 63 chevies...flexes almost as good as a lot of coilover buggies

Here is my setup when i put the chevy 63" springs in my truck i need e3d to move the front mount as well as the rear so i started looking at some options. The chevy springs that i had pickup still had the stock chevy shackles attached so i started thinking. this is what i came up with leaving the rear mount in the stock location chevy shackle bolted to rear hanger and new shackle bolted to chevy shackle. this is what it looks like.

in those pictures i still have at least another 4" of droop still to go .
And contrary to everyones statement's (if you have never run them you don't have a clue) They are not sketchy at all. They do not ever unload. they only open when u are @ full flex and my shocks are still in the stock location.
So in my opinion They are worth every penny free in my case and if you want more lift out of them then put a space between the upper shackle and the frame and you can get another 1"-1.5" out of the set up.
hope this helps and it is way cheaper then a store bought pair.
