Muriatic Acid

Has anyone ever used Muriatic Acid?

I tried some with some incredile results. It converts the rust to shiny metal!

However, by next morning back to flash rust again...

What is the difference between Muriatic Acid and Phosphoric Acid?

also, Eastwood sells some stuff called Metal Wash which is supposed to clean the metal and leave a protective coating to prevent further flash rusting.

Has anyone ever used it?

the biggest difference is phos. acid will clean the metal, muratic will eat it!!! lol.(only if left soaking in it) the best, fastest & cheapest way to fix this problem will require the following:
1 a gallon of phosphoric acid (professionally called METAL PREP)
2 a water hose ( must have running water to be effective)lol
3 an air hose w/ a blower nozzle
4 a surgical blue tack rag
5 rubber gloves
6 epoxy primer
directons:
1 spray half the body with acid & give it a few minutes to work. u'll know it's done when the metal looks new again.
2 install rubber gloves & blow dry every seam, nook,& cranny until u almost puke.
3 repeat step 2(u don't want water running out of a seam into the fresh epoxy)
4 once dry, wipe down with the tack rag & spray with the epoxy as per directions on the can.
5 let it sit a day & hit the other half.
p.s.: AT NO TIME ARE U TO TOUCH THIS WITH BARE HANDS!!! if u do, start over.the salt in u're skin will make it rust & u usually won't see it until it's painted & u wonder why there are tiny blisters in the paint in the shape of a fingerprint or hand .lol

Well I've already touched the hell out of it since back from the sandblaster.

Bought a quart of Epoxy Primer today, guess I will follow your direction on the "Acid Wash."

I also understand that I need to then lay down some High Build Primer quickly since I wont be doing any bodywork right away.

clean it with the phos. if u've touched it or u'll have problems later. just spray it with the epoxy.u can't put down any surfacer primers until the filler work is done. filler doesn't like to stick to primer. remember: clean, seal(epoxy),filler(to u're best ability),surfacer primer, sand, paint.

Phosphoric acid protects metal because the phosphate ion is more electronegative than O- it will bind to the surface of metal (specifically Iron (Fe)), and cannot be replaced by O- (oxygen). FeO2 or whatever Iron oxide is rust.

Muriatic acid is pool acid, which contains HCl (hydrochloric acid) and cyanuric acid (an organic used to stabalize chlorine in solution) Iron dissolves in HCL FYI
