Forgive me if this sounds like a totally stupid question: So can I tow my 07 FJ with the manual transmission in neutral while leaving the T-case in H, without any mechanical harm? Thanks!

I would say, you might get away with it, but you're going to put some stress on the drive train. You'd be better off with a car dolly for the front, and a disconnected rear shaft, but then you're still putting ware on the rear drive shaft and tires.

Now, if you have an automatic, or 2 wheel drive, that could be a different story. Read you're owners manual, and remember you only have yourself to blame.

Has anyone investigated the ability to flat tow a M6 any further?

Yeah, you're better off not doing it. I personally wouldn't do it with any AWD/Full-time-4x4. You might get away with it but it'll put ware on the drive-train, and possibly break something if you don't do it just right. Personally I'd put the front wheels on a dolly and disconnect the rear drive shaft at a minimum. Best option is to use a trailer.

I'm no mechanic but I talked to a guy pulling his FJC behind his bus from Whistler, BC, Canada to Kentucky. He had a 4x4 automatic FJC, he said that the FJC is very easy to disconnect the driveshaft allowing it to spin freely. This sounds like the best thing you could do, but again, I'm no mechanic.

any updates on the FJ flat towing?

Great overview walking thru these examples. Question is:

77FJ40-07FJC is your FJ experiencing any problems since you posted this review?

I put a drive line disconnect in my 07 Auto. Disconnect the back drive line and leave the trans in park. I have towed mine this way for 3 years. Went to alaska this summer (8971 miles) and all over the United States with NO problems. Make sure you dont take the key out of the igniation because it will lock you wheels.

Both transmissions are full time 4wd, and towing any full time 4wd without it being on a trailer is likely to result in some severely warn or even broken parts. Basically it'll put a lot of stress on the transfer case that it wasn't designed for; especially since it only sends 40% of the power to the front wheels.

I am assuming you mean that "both transfer cases are full time 4x4"?
This is not true. The autos are a part time and the manuals are fulltime.
