I have a '92 FJ80 that needs to have my front brakes replaced. I have not owned the vehicle for long, and I like doing my own work on a truck so I can get to know it better. The front discs are in need of replacement on the truck. I have a Chiltons guide and have started the procedure, but I am having trouble with the actual removal of the disc. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Welcome to MUD :flipoff2: (official MUD welcome)

First, bookmark this link to the 80 series FAQs - lots of useful information to have down the road

Now, I assume that what is below applies to the FJ80s just as it does to the FZJ80s...Sorry if it does not

As for the discs...I'm assuming you are referring to the rotors? Here are a couple links to front brake servicing from the FAQs. Basically you have to partially tear down the front axle to replace the rotors which is why you will often see folks mention that you might as well do a complete front axle service at the same time.

You can find other threads with pictures etc. by searching in the 80s section on front brakes, bleeding brakes, brake break in, etc.

To have good brakes after all is said and done you need to completely bleed the brake system per the FSM steps (good time to go ahead and flush the fluid) and "bed in" the brakes when you are done.

A couple important points: (1) remove some of the brake fluid from the reservoir before pushing on the caliper pistons or you'll get brake fluid flowing over and (2) make sure to completely clean the rotors with brake cleaner after they are installed.

Good luck and HTH
