Isn't more to the point that the stock knuckle is strong enough and not that it's the strongest?

How many people have broken a stock 80 knuckles? I don't go to pirate so my experience is just here in the 80 section.

it might be strong enough for you depending on what you do. it's not strong enough for me though. if i had a free set of high steer arms on stock abs knuckles, i'd sell them. you've made it very obvious that you dont like my product, and i'm ok with that. i dont expect everyone to love it, but i know that a lot will.

thanks, -billy

I'm not concerned with the strength since 80 knuckles are not even close to being the weak link on these axles. But I LOVE your knuckles for hi-steer options. But I'm not a normal 80 owner and most don't need hi-steer. Seeings how my knuckles do not have the ABS hole... i can't even do the route that this thread started as. If I start breaking Longs and cryo'd R&P then I'm going D60/14 bolt.

never said I hate your knuckles, all I pointed out was what I saw as excessive engineering and production costs dealing with a non issue with our axles.

Sorry that you still don't get that.

maybe i'm just in the wrong place over here.;)

fyi, there's thousands of beefy parts out there that i dont need on my rig. should i post up everywhere that i dont need them? i'm not trying to push any product on you, just offering it to those who may want it. so far i have a ton of fans and couple naysayers. that's good enough for me.:)

So it's about you and not your product? Well, since the product hasn't been sold yet, i guess it is.
I like to see things work before I believe them, especially when they don't replace a weak link.
I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but you've got to stop arguing with the 80 series crowd, cause they don't need these knuckles. It's like selling a pocket pu$$y to a dude.... our hand works fine.

ok, i get it. and i got it the last 10 times you bashed me. not sure what i ever did to you but i guess it was pretty bad.

you can spend all the time you want on here bashing me, but please forgive me if i stop responding to you.

and btw, when you say "80's crowd", does that mean that you have been in contact with every 80 owner out there to determine that you dont want these? if you can verify that, i'll stay off of your internet.

Settle down bevis. You're selling a product and I'm asking you to show not what you're selling, but why you're selling.

Please explain to me why an 80 owner would NEED heavier duty knuckles before they need Longfields, heavy duty tie rods, HD hub studs, HD drive flanges, extra hub dowels or cryo'd ring and pinion. I don't need to talk to every 80 owner, because I've wheeled the ever-living-piss out of 3 80's for almost a decade now and all over the US. I have broken things on 80's that even the cruiser gods say shouldn't break, and I've borken repeatedly the things I mention above on these front axles. I've pushed those rigs hard. Can a knuckle break? Sure. but the odds of you breaking an OEM knuckle then breaking another one in your lifetime is like winning the lottery twice.

I LOVE YOUR KNUCKLES. How is that bashing you? They are a great solution for folks wanting hi-steer options. I want to 3-link the front. I'm going to need hi-steer if i keep the 80 series axle. But I'm contemplating getting rid of it due to other weak links.... not the knuckles. But you keep talking about broken knuckles like it's a common occurance. Please show us, more than one. Because until you show me that a broken knuckle is common, I'm going to say the 80 owner don't need a heavier duty knuckle for the sole purpose of strength. it's a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

Show the folks that don't need hi-steer why they need these knuckles. Don't get upset, don't say I'm bashing you, If you show us, then I can't say the 80 owner don't need them. deal?

Word.

Can't we all just get along?

for those who say that stock knuckles are strong enough for hard core wheeling, i will gladly accept a stock knuckle with available high steer arm and do a test on both set-ups to compare breaking strength. it will cost a bit to build the fixturing but it will be worth it to me and all of you just to know what holds up and what doesn't.:)

I have no doubt your knuckles are stronger, but having 3 years experience with our setup using the bottom arm and making it double shear we have never broken a knuckle, arm or stock arm. That is on trucks with 40" and 44" tires, v8 motors running the hardest trails. Ben has repeated busted transfer cases, both shafts and cases, yet has never had an issue with the knuckles. That gives you an idea of the trails. Also includes one season on the XRRA circuit.

I see why you are doing these, although I would have made the hi-steer arms with keyways to make extra sure they do not twist. If you are building the baddest knuckle, might as well go 110 %

i never intended for this to become a pissing match, and fyi i am completely calm, so no need to settle down. and my name is billy, not bevis.

i never said that all 80 owners need what i'm selling. i have been told by several 80 owners that this would be a nice upgrade for them. these were originally intended for 80 swaps on mini trucks and 4runners, which will likely be the majority of my sales. i dont see the problem with offering aftermarket parts to people who want them. if you dont want them, then by all means, dont feel obligated to buy them. this doesn't seem too complicated to me.

i know that slee makes great products and i'm not trying to bash him at all. i was told by enough people that this is something worth doing, so i did it. i did it to give people what they want, not to cause any lame drama.

ok, i think i'm done here. i haver better things to do than participate in childish internet name calling games.

how do you know i'm not? i have no doubt that these will hold up just fine without keyways, but i've had 4 or 5 guys say that they would like that.

once again, i'll give the people what they want.:)

I have not checked the pirate4x4 thread for some time, but I believe when it was discussed you mentioned that it was an extra machining step that you did not want to do.

yeah, it was going to be a surprise. oh well.

i'm just looking forward to this and hopefully we can all be friends, since we're all into the same thing right?:D

yep. childish. Telling us our knuckles need upgrading but no documentation as to why. Why can't we ask you that? just show us.

I'm looking forward to them too! A few of my mini truck friends are eager to see how these do because we do talk about them around the fire. But no one can say anything until folks are using them. So get done already.

The thing that's driving me away from my own axle is the 8" hi-pinion. The ftoys I run with break these all the time. they all carry multiple spares. And I'm running bigger tires and twice as heavy. Yes, I'm breaking rings too.

So anyway, I'll stop harassing you. Just please stop saying 80-series knuckles aren't strong.

there's a solution to the 8" r&p, it's a ruffstuff or diamond housing with toyota 9.5 diff. it's a little pricier but it's all toyota and all beef.

as to these holding up, they are on my 83 pickup that i've been beating on for over 6 months. i had to put airbumps up front so i could mash through the whoops and see how they hold up. so far so good, nothing has loosened. my rig is much lightewr than a fj80 land cruiser, but these are also on a 5,000 lb 4runner with 40's and a 3rz.

i cant say that stock knuckles aren't strong enough for anyone, and i only know of 2 failures, one on my last rig and someone else who posted up recently on pirate i believe. i have heard that stock knuckles have broken on fj80's in austrailia, which is why someone over there came out with a heavy duty knuckle with integrated arms. they're not highsteer, but stronger than stock. my system is both high steer and stronger than stock, and the only reason i made them beefier is, well, why not? a new knuckle had to be made so i made it better. the other advantage is that some people want high steer, but not so high that it limits uptravel. the 3rz 4runner that is running this right now has the tie rod under the arms with a 3link for better uptravel, while my 83 has the tie rod on top of the arms to clear the deaver springs.

so there it is, you might not need anything stronger than stock, but it's available if you decide that you do.

Billy, I sincerely thank you for saying this. This is all I've been trying to rebut when you've kept saying the factory knuckles aren't strong enough. So thank you. Now if you can just work on price!
