short version: is the lock nut sitting proud of the hub like this going to cause problems?

long version:
completely rebuilding the hubs and axles. everything seemed to be going back together well until i tried to lock down the hub.

washer, nut, lock washer, nut. both nuts installed and torqued per FSM specs, i end up with the outer lock nut proud of the hub.

i pulled everything and tried again. have confirmed hub is fully seated.

my only guess / concern is maybe one of the new bearings or bearing races isn’t fully seated in the hub causing this?

any info on how much trouble i’ll be in if i finish putting her back together like this, or suggestions on what to check would be great.

Races may not be seated all the way. Take out and inspect. They should be no gap between race and seating inter face. Did you tighten to 47 ft-lbs and spin the hub 360 degrees CW and CCW to get the bearings to seat? Try latter first, if no change check the races. I would not run it like you have it. Fix

Post pics of the cleaned hub if you, especially where bearing races seat. Their is a lip seal (red highlighted black seal) on the spindle gasket which can also prevent the hub from seating. Make sure it does not.

Thanks all for the help. I tried all the above tips multiple times and couldn't get it right. For some reason things just did not want to seat.

Finally I tried the torque, turn, torque procedure without the thrust washer in place - just nut against bearing - then put the thrust washer back in correctly, and everything went together as expected.

Rebuilt the whole left side in less time than it took me to wrestle this one part of the right side!
